HRT issues

Has anyone else had issues with taking HRT which has caused a thickened womb lining?
I've had scans which has confirmed I have this problem which is causing heavy periods for a start. I now need to be checked out by gynae as it's possible that the thickening is an indication of cancer.
I have been told to stop taking HRT, I am still on the progesterone only contraceptive pill.
Obvs I am a little concerned about the gynae implications, but also worried about being able to control menopause symptoms without the HRT.
Has anyone been through similar and what did you find that helped you?

Hi
I have been through similar recently. I had some unexpected bleeding on hrt and was referred for an ultrasound which showed a thickened endometrium. My GP advised me to stop all hrt for 6 weeks and see what happened to the bleeding. The 6 weeks were pretty hideous in that my hot flushes came back with a vengeance. After 6 weeks I had had no further bleeding and was allowed to start hrt again. I’m awaiting another scan later this month for an incidental finding on the original scan (cyst) but I’m hoping it shows the lining has thinned.

@Chimperino Can you say what HRT you're using?
Are you using progesterone as well as estrogen , as well as the POP?
If you're in peri, the womb lining can get thicker anyway - it 's not the same risk as a thick lining post menopause.

Do you know what the lining was? Because the guidance is different for women on sequential HRT compared to continuous.

The risks of it being cancer when on HRT are minute (stats online on this.) It's also not mandatory to stop HRT while waiting for more investigations (which should happen within a week or two.)

Were you bleeding at odd times or just heavier withdrawal bleeds?
Usually it just needs an adjustment to the HRT- often more progesterone.

The GP thinks it's just a need for progesterone so am on that pill, I was on estrogen gel and a progesterone tablet. The lining was 7.9. I understand that's more than standard for peri. And it was just really heavy bleeding - and to be honest I've always been heavy. But hitting peri seems to have made it worse.
Am hoping I can have some sort of other HRT as am not looking forward to hot flushes again.

If you are on cyclical HRT ( 12-14 days progesterone a month) that lining is perfectly normal, especially if the scan was at any time other than straight after a period.

For women in peri and on cyclical HRT they allow up to 9-10mm during the cycle. (I've had scans for years and years , with a consultant, and this is what I've been advised.)

The lower limit of 4mm (or 5) is for women post menopausal or on continuous combined HRT.

I'm not sure from what you've said if you are using progesterone daily or 14 days a month or the dose of estrogen.
The two need balancing to avoid the lining getting too thick.
