I had two back to back and now nothing for 7 weeks. I know there's 45 weeks to go yet but here's hoping now. My mum had two back to back like me after years of being regular and then nothing again.

How old are you? I’m counting the days until my periods will stop for good .

bugalugs45 · 06/07/2026 14:05

Mine stopped super suddenly after a year of being a bit wonky & mix of both short & long gaps ( 19 days being least , 70 days being the most ) , but as of 3 weeks time I haven’t had a period in a year …touches everything wood around me ..
Im 47 if that’s relevant

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 06/07/2026 14:07

Mine have done that a few times... 6-8 weeks in between then 2 on one month. Feel battered to be honest. Im 41

This is so sad, we have had the tools to get rid of periods since the 1960's!

There are multiple options and if you want to be bleed free I would discuss this with your GP instead of wishing for ovarian failure, which comes with a whole host of negative health consequences, especially for those who lose their estrogen at a relatively young age.

Thanks for your input!
If you’re talking about hormones like the Mirena coil or similar you don’t know anything about other peoples medical history or their family medical history.
I’m sure most women nowadays can make informed decisions for themselves
when it comes to synthetic hormones and things are not always black or white ( I know this is Mumsnet where most people do tend to see everything from their own perspective so I’m not going to discuss this further ).

Early menopause is before 45 after that it’s normal and natural for your periods to stop.

Absolutely agree with this.

I’m over 50 and mine are still going strong. My cycle is a bit shorter but that’s it. I’m desperate for mine to end. 40 years and counting is enough!

@DrCoconut Too early to consider you'r close to being post menopause.
You've just missed one period.

A pretty normal pattern is to miss one or two, have 6 months of regular periods, miss another, normal, miss a couple more etc and this can go on for 3+ years.

Some women's periods stop almost overnight but that's rare.

It's far more normal to have increasing gaps - even 11 months- before another one appears.

Not sure of your age but the average age is 51.
Before 45 is considered early and before 40 is premature.

By wishing for ovarian failure, do you mean menopause? Well that’s going to happen at some point to OP, to you, to me, and everyone reading this! Whether we ‘mask’ that occurrence with a Mirena doesn’t change the fact that it’s happened.

I appreciate early / surgical menopause can be distressing and perhaps that’s behind the phrase. Otherwise I find it quite odd!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 06/07/2026 22:08

Could you be pregnant? I’d check that first…

Specialneedsnightmare · 06/07/2026 22:28

I haven't had a period since February. Before that I missed two in a row from December 2024 and the odd one a few tmes since 2023. This is by far the longest gap and i have no idea if they will be back. I'm 47.

How does everyone cope with the uncertainty of when the next one could be? Regular as clock work until this month but perimenopausal symptoms for a good four years maybe more...

In what way?
Carry san pro in your handbag all the time?
Use a panty liner ?
Or consider the Pill or POP if you need contraception and you'll also not have periods.
