Period issues!

Hi,

I have a U/S booked in a couple of weeks, which was booked a few weeks ago following long standing heavy periods.

However, since I saw the doc, it’s all been a bit disastrous.

For a start, I missed a whole period. So I had a normal one mid April, nothing mid May, then 3 weeks ago I started bleeding… and I’m still bleeding now. The last week has been lighter, but definitely still there.

This is all very new to me, I’ve always been regular as clockwork, if particularly heavy since I hit 40 (now 45)

Should I flag this? Wait for the ultrasound? Any thoughts?

I think you may get better responses by posting this under the 'Menopause' topic.

I can't really advise you on this, but it might be worth reading up on peri-menopause?

You've done the best thing by arranging an ultrasound though x

💐

Thanks @SaraHoliday, I didn’t even notice there was a menopause section, so I will ask for it to be moved!

It’s really common in perimenopause for periods to become shorter, longer, lighter heavier and more sporadic. It’s quite common to miss a period and then for the next one to be much heavier and / or last twice as long.

If the ultrasound is external, then it shouldn’t make any difference if you’re bleeding. If it’s a transvaginal scan would suggest contacting the department and see what they say.

Thanks @over50andfab, it’s a transvaginal, I actually moved it as I couldn’t make the original date and they offered to bring it forward to yesterday, but I knew I’d still be bleeding. I have everything crossed it’ll be finished in 2 weeks, if not will give them a call

They will be very used to people attending appointments whilst bleeding. Don’t worry about it at all. I went recently for a scan and was bleeding and it was absolutely no issue. Just go so you can get to the bottom of the issue. As someone above said, all to be expected in perimenopause unfortunately by my scan started the ball rolling with further investigation and hopefully getting on top of it. We shouldn’t have to just suffer it
