Urethral area pain

Anyone had a sore urethral area as part of the delights of menopause? Sore skin and stinging when going for a wee etc? General unhappy area pain? If so did using the estrogen cream in the area help in the end?

I've been on Vagifem for a while and it hasn't solved this symptom. I have now got the cream as well for the outside but seems to be making it worse rather than better? Shall I push on through in the hope that eventually it will turn a corner?

P.s. have been seen by vulval dermatologist and no skin issues like lichen sclerosis etc.

I'd be interested to hear people's experience with this. Xxx

Yes me! I have to use both. I use one vagifem every night and like a little fingernail smear of cream rubbed over my bits. Has helped and if I miss it I soon notice. OH THE JOYS 😂

This is very common - I experienced this after I’d been using Vagifem for a while, developing a sore spot on the vulva and skin splits in the folds between the labia.

Assuming you mean stinging on the vulva at the urethral entrance, if you apply an emollient ointment e.g. Epaderm or Hydromol (sold in a tub) this will protect the thinner sensitive tissue against irritants like urine which by nature is slightly acidic and will also prevent friction. It can be applied as often as needed and also be used to wash with. Also look at any other potential irritants like toilet paper containing bleach and perfume, body wash or anything else touching the area. It helps to dab rather than wipe after weeing and you could also pour warm water over whilst weeing using a peri bottle or a squeezy bottle to prevent stinging.

If the vulval tissue is already sore products like estriol cream can At least nitially increase the soreness. Maybe apply emollient for a week or so first then retry. If the tissue continues to be irritated, your doctor might prescribe a steroid ointment to help reduce vulval inflammation.
