i was having Peri symptoms (low mood, tearful, exhausted, achy, night sweats) and the GP put me on 2 pumps of Oestrogel as I already have the mirena coil.

I felt much better for a couple of months and now feel just as bad.

I feel absolutely wiped out by just doing my normal activities.

why would it help for a few months and then stop?

I don’t take supplements although I see them advertised everywhere - should I look into that?

i’m 46.

I’d go up to 3 pumps, do you have a medication review due?

PersephoneParlormaid · 04/07/2026 16:13

I personally don’t think HRT is a cure all. I also take vitamin B complex for energy, omega 3 for achy joints, magnesium glycinate for sleep, and D3 with K2 for bones.

If you felt better initially, it could be you need to increase to 3 pumps, are you due a review? 2 pumps is a low/ moderate dose.

My DP has tried umpteen types of HRT over the last 3 years and nothing has worked. I'm afraid while one version or other helps most people there are some for whom it doesn't.

Have you had thyroid checks and other things?

it didn’t fully help me. I actually felt better when I had to come off it due to cancer and spend time working on fitness, strength and diet. I see myself as lucky in a way as I found take some time off to recover from surgery and radio and put new habits into place. I’m not allowed hrt now (possibly) and am on tamoxifen which causes a lot of symptoms. I’ve used a lot of meno tips from the menopause and cancer podcasts. And am mostly ok. Better than pre hrt imho.

I have had vitamin issues though. B12, vit d and folate drop if I don’t take them but that may be due to hypothyroidism also. I felt horrific when folate was low.

You need to increase your dose. My symptoms weren't alleviated until I went up to the highest dose. I also have testosterone which for me was a game changer.

I also take vitamin B12 and Lions Mane.
