Experiences of HRT with an IUD and gel or patch?

I'm well into menopause (2 years) and after discussions my GP has suggested that I try HRT via an IUD combined with gel or a patch. I've had migraines all my life and this seems like a good option that will keep my hormone levels stable and avoid triggering hormonal migraines. Has anyone (with or without migraine) had experience of this? I've never had an IUD, never had a child, no hysterectomy, and not living in the UK currently, if any of that's relevant. Thanks!

I'm veggie so this is especially good to know!

One of the reasons I stopped taking utrogestan. I did try to find an alternative but there really didn’t seem to be one.

I’ve just googled it and they contain soybean lecithin too which apparently means that they are not suitable for people with severe peanut or soya allergies.

I have always been advised to avoid attempting IUDs as I haven't given birth vaginally. Apparently its difficult and more painful. So HRT gel and tablets for me.

I've never given birth. You can have the insertion under anaesthetic if it's the right solution for you.

@MagpiePi Women who use micronised progesterone every day don't have withdrawal bleeds.

There are 2 ways of using it- 12 days a month in peri or by choice post menopause (gives a withdrawal bleed) or daily = no bleed .

i was in peri so taking them for several days a month and having a bleed. I know it suits some women but I just could not be arsed having to remember to take them, plus the faff of carrying on dealing with the bleeding.

That's right- you were on the sequential sort in peri.
It's an individual choice.

I just wanted to reassure the OP that micronised progesterone doesn't always mean a withdrawal bleed. It depends on how it's used.

She's post menopause so would be using the combined continuous sort of HRT which is no bleed.
