Side effects after switching from sequential to continuous HRT?

Has anyone had any side effects moving from sequential to continuous HRT? I’m 53 and the menopause nurse has moved me over to continuous (uterogestan) one pill plus a 75mg patch. I just feel so bloated, sore boobs and my weight has gone up a kilo in about 4 days. 😬

This is very common. It may settle down in time and the guidance is give it 3 months.

It's not mandatory to switch to continuous. It's 'guidance' to offer it but some women don't get on with continuous.

I tried continuous for a few weeks and it didn't suit me for various reasons. My consultant (excellent) is happy for me to stay on sequential and I'm now more than 15 years on HRT that way.

I have a friend 70+ who still uses sequential for similar reasons.

Continuous is 'pushed' on the basis it's safer for the endometrium but the risk is tiny and there is a downside- such as side effects and a slightly higher risk of breast cancer (especially with the older synthetic progestins.)

It's your choice which you use.

@JinglingSpringbells thanks so much for your reply! I’m not sure I can wait three months, I feel puffed up like a balloon and all my clothes feel really tight. I hate it!

I didn't get on with that combination either. Switched to a lower dose combined patch and feeling much better. Still getting some bleeding (monthly) but pretty light.
