High blood pressure & GP advised I stop HRT suddenly - is this a good idea?

I had my annual HRT review today. I'm on 3 pumps of oestrogel daily & have Mirena IUD + I have vag pessary twice weekly. I had high blood pressure reading at the GP today so I'm going to take readings twice a day for a week then go back to see GP next Friday. She told me to just stop taking HRT now, but I'm worried about that - won't that be like falling off a cliff, aren't you supposed to taper? I've been on HRT since April 2022. Can anyone advise whether it's best to taper? I'm wondering if I should seek advice from a menopause expert - can anyone recommend any? Thanks!

Well done for getting the reading down. It moves surprisingly quickly once you take action.
i agree re the calming down. I’m inclined towards impatience if I don’t watch ,myself, and it’s rarely warranted, and never useful!
so I got one called Hilo, it seems to be ok, although there may be better ones. I got it through my NHS app, there was a link to a site and I got it from there. It was £200 and includes a cuff to calibrate (you’re sposed to do this once a month th) with the wrist band. The wrist band looks like a bit of 80’s goth accessory to me ;-) but as I wear black it suits me. I think you could probably use anything as a wrist band though as long as it fits through the lugs.

Thank you - it's stayed down, which is very encouraging! Yes, impatience is rarely warranted - we get into these habits of rushing, not wanting to take time and be calm, etc, and I've realised I don't even know why I was being like that - it was just a lifetime's habit! I'm taking mental breathers when I feel I'm starting to rev up, now, & I'm not even trying hard, it's just happening out of mortal fear of bad health ruining my retirement! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look on the NHS app (had no idea things like that are on there!)

I stopped my HRT when I was in hospital for surgery and sick I just couldn’t manage to even remember patches and tablets so just thought I’ll suffer the consequences, I wasn’t too bad to be geo St I had about a 3-4 month break I lost weight, but then the hit flushes came back with force!

I think your GP sounds like he/she is a bit muddled and I’d want another opinion.

Sounds like you did the right thing for you at the time, & you were then able to see the consequences of stopping for you - it's all information, isn't it! I've decided I'd like to stay on oestrogel till I'm at least 60, & maybe stay on some form of HRT beyond that - I'm after the protective aspects of it - there's heart disease, osteoporosis & dementia in my family - as well as the symptom-relief. Thanks for sharing, this threads been really helpful 😊

Update: just been to my follow-up apt - my measurements averaged out at pre-hypertension nos., & GP was happy with that & has continued my HRT prescription with no bother! I'm dead chuffed - that my BP is better, I'm looking after myself better & I'm still on the HRT! Thanks again everyone, for your support & information 😘
