Doctors advice , Does this sound right ?

I was on sequential hrt at first but I was having headaches and migraines all the time that were worse leading up to a period. I was given continuous hrt instead. Doctor said it would stop the bleeding and maybe the headaches.

i have been on it 6 months , its helped the headaches but every 4-6 weeks I’ve had a heavy period and spotting mid cycle as though I’m still having my natural cycle (which I think I am )

when I spoke to her she said she’d send me for a scan and if all was ok she would up the dose of progesterone.
does this sound right ?
is it not wrong to be trying to suppress my natural periods. She said some women just want to make the bleeding stop. It would be nice , yes, but I’m a bit dubious.

When I had the contraceptive implant I barely had any periods for years. I don’t think suppressing your natural cycle is an issue unless you actively want to have periods. On hrt now now and still have periods but v light and skipping a few, so again it’s a time when the natural cycle is on its way out and not something to want to hang onto esp if it’s heavy and bothersome.

Headaches as a result of progesterone withdrawal (your own or part of sequential HRT) are very common.

The reason for not using combined continuous too soon is that it doesn't stop bleeding (periods) in women still in peri.

Combined continuous (bleed free) is for women 12 months with no period OR over age 54.

There are exceptions with women under 54 or not yet post meno - like you experienced with headaches on sequential- but if you bleed it doesn't usually mean you need investigations- just a change on the type of HRT. You could consider the Mirena coil or another type of progesterone like Navlee.

It isn't 'wrong' to stop you bleeding if you're having periods - but pretty impossible unless you have the Mirena coil or a stronger/ higher dose of progesterone, which may give you side effects. Even 200mgs of Utrogestan daily may not be enough and you may find you're intolerant to it.

It depends how much your period bothers you.
