GnRH Agonists to stop periods

Does anyone have any experience with these?

My menopause specialist suggested it as an option. I'm in perimenopause and having a really hard time, can't seem to get HRT to reduce fluctuations. Currently on 100mg estrogen patch + 200mg utrogestan.

I'd really love to hear others experiences of GnRH agonists.

I've been on a GnRH agonist for 6 months because of continuous bleeding and it's made almost no difference. This is due to fibroids however.

From my cursory reading, it's like any of the "solutions", for some people it works well, for others it does nothing. For some it even seems to make things worse. You could try it for a month?

Thanks for replying - I am concerned about the making things worse scenario.

I don't have an issue with the actual bleed, mine is very short & light, it's more menopause symptoms - migraines, hot flushes etc that I can't control with HRT because my own hormones are fluctuating so much.

Did you get side effects? The idea of suddenly switching off all ovarian activity sounds a bit scary to me. I'm assuming it would be helpful I'm already on a high dose of HRT.

I’ve had analogues 4 or 5 times for endometriosis. The hot flushes were horrendous. I’m now post menopausal and the hot flushes I’ve had have been very minor. On analogues I wanted to take off my skin to escape the burn. The headaches had me in hospital a few times they were so bad. My skin was awful with spots. My mood horrendous. Couldn’t sleep due to the hot flushes. They didn’t even help the pain very much. They take a few weeks to start working properly too.

That sounds remarkably unappealing! Did you have any kind of add-back therapy?

Thank you for sharing :-)

I did. I had livial and things improved somewhat. Im
very intolerant to progesterone so having no oestrogen wasn’t good for me at all.
