Has testosterone after menopause helped restore libido or interest in relationships?

V interested about any Testosterone experiences.
I went through menopause without any HRT, no issues , other than that I COMPLETELY lost interest in men , ( who shockingly haven’t lost interest in me it seems 🤔😑), and at this stage I am at risk of lonely gruesome end& being eaten by my cat ( poor cat!). I’m thinking maybe if I restore some libido, I might find men mildly funny or attractive (or less pointless 🙄😑) again ..
As it stands …I’d rather be eaten by my cat 😂

I came on to say it worked for me re. libido, but if DH ran off with a younger model I'm not sure I would renew my prescription.

So two completely separate things

  • are you happy solo? if so why fix what ain't broke? There are many lovely cats available for rescue and they tend to be less trouble than men
  • if you do want testosterone it will only be prescribed by a willing GP once they are sure your oestrogen levels are optimal, so it might be a bit of a faff to get it done, and most users find it very slow burn or ineffective.

Someone less ethical than me might suggest a short holiday in Turkey where you can buy testogel over the counter, see if it works, and if it does try out the idea of a man. But of course that would be highly inappropriate so I would never suggest it.

If you want to try testosterone you will also need to have optimal oestrogen (via HRT) or there is a good chance the testosterone will just convert to oestrogen.

It's unlikely anyone will prescribe testosterone without you being on oestrogen (and progesterone if you have a uterus) for a few months to get your levels up

Also, I'd strongly recommend vaginal/vulval oestrogen if you're planning any post menopausal sexy time. You don't mention using if already so there's a good chance you've also got vaginal atrophy to deal with/lack of sexual sensation because your body has had no oestrogen for so long.

You may find that increasing your systemic and local oestrogen makes you feel more kindly towards getting close to men.

Haha
Pheww! Think of the inappropriate ideas someone less ethical could’ve planted in my perceptive head! 😆
I’ve been plotting a Turkey anyway .. ! ( after my dentist revealed her figures & time scales! That’s another thread I need to start!😂).

That’s the thing. I quite like my life as it is (and absolutely adore cats!) I/My life is time consuming & i don’t have much extra time ..until I go on holidays / breaks … and get all romantic and playful after 2 glasses of wine (..poor busy daughter,I keep suggesting girlie holidays … what a liability!).

I also feel time is ticking I suppose, I’m late 50’s, lucky to look younger,(attract younger men ugh) ..I am aware, i could wake up any morning and realise nobody will be interested in me ever again … so I got to make a decision/ have a think …while anyone would still have me ..😂

Do most women not benefit from Testosterone? There are such wildly clashing claims about it.

Unfortunately testosterone is not a magic pill that works for every woman (because if it did the benefit to men would be enormous so it would be virtually mandatory by now).

I was one of the lucky ones who went from "oh, sex, yes, I remember that, is it still a thing?" to feeling like a horny teenage boy. But I am in the minority as far as I understand. Some women get a slow build over months, some see no change at all.

Definitely yes to vaginal oestrogen (if I ever let anyone this close again 😑) - despite a bit of dryness ,I didn’t realise I had serious dystrophy until the last attempt to have a smear! I never went again, although Vagifem is very efficient.
After ovaries stop producing sex hormones the suprarenal gland sort of takes over producing some Oestrogen, and together with healthy life style (and spin classes!),this seemed to work well for me, apart from total and quick loss of a very healthy libido. I was reluctant to use HRT as I felt so lucky to get away without (My mum really suffered with menopause symptoms, it was like she was going mad ), but it makes sense that I wouldn’t be prescribed male hormones until my female ones are checked and balanced. Thank you for your thoughts.
