Advice Ahead of GP Appointment

I'm seeing the GP on Tues, with the hope of being prescribed testosterone.
To be honest, I'm expecting a fight (purely from what I've heard from other people), and can see myself going private!
My plan is to say I've been on HRT since Jan. All brilliant, except for libido. I think testosterone might be the missing piece.
Does anyone have any other advice?
Thanks.

My GP was very happy to prescribe BUT a) they have to be convinced your oestrogen is working b) they can only prescribe for libido and c) they have to be willing to prescribe off licence.

If you can fulfil a) and b) then it’s entirely up to them, and if they are not willing to prescribe off licence then there is nothing you can do other than ask them if they know someone who will.

I had to up my oestrogen first, which sorted my low mood, and once that was working but no improvement in libido it was fine.

Some GPs are very pro, don’t believe all the negative stories. But it is a bit of a lottery.

I ended up having to get it privately as my GP
wouldn’t give it. They did agree to do the repeats of “Tostran”. So I only paid privately once.

One cannister lasts 8 months - use 3 -4x a week as one pump is double the women’s daily dose.

Tell the GP the lack of libido is causing great distress and it can be prescribed on the NHS under these circs (print off the guidance?). And the medication is called tostran and one canister will last 30 weeks and you know it’s not covered on the prepayment certification.

My NHS GP was happy to prescribe testosterone for me after a blood test showed very low levels, and I told her my libido had completely vanished (which was true). I had to have another after 6 weeks - my level had come right up to the high end of the normal range. I need to have another blood test after I've been on it for 6 months

So go in and ask, and good luck. They should do a blood test first before prescribing

Thanks, everyone.
Fingers crossed I get an empathetic and (meno) knowledgeable GP 🤞
