Hi ladies, I had an internal ultrasound last week, had a phone call i need a biopsy going on the 26th May , just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on it . I am 56 wa on 4 pumps oestrogel and 100mg utrogestan for 12 nights for 2 years , then in November last year, went to a menopause clinic and was told to use 4 pumps and 200mg utrogestan every night, she rang me in April, ask how I was doing said was still bleeding a little sometimes just for one day not much blood at all ,or spotting for a few days , so told me to go down to 3 pumps and that when she said about the ultrasound , I am a bit scared as when I had my smear test they have been painful, all so been using estriol cream for a few years.

I presume you mean a hysteroscopy? It could be they found a polyp or cyst and want to check it as that would be the safe thing to do. Please discuss this with them. I had to have hysteroscopy under GA although some women find it perfectly tolerable. My results were clear but I did have a lot of debris removed from my womb.

I had irregular spotting and had to go for an endometrial biopsy. It’s not unlike a smear test except that they go in through your cervix to take a tiny sample of the womb lining. I’ll be honest and say that it was very uncomfortable and I’m glad I had someone with me (in the waiting room) as I wouldn’t have wanted to drive or get the bus home. It took two weeks for results. Everything came back fine. I hope this will be the same for you.

Try not to worry.
I've had a biopsy on its own and a hysteroscopy/ biopsy for similar reasons.
Make sure you know which they are doing. A biopsy on its own was IME more or less painless.

The instrument they use is no bigger than a straw and the whole procedure takes about 30 seconds. My consultant didn't use a speculum. I didn't need anyone with me, felt fine and no side effects.

My hysteroscopy was fine too - I chose not to have a GA - but you'll always get mixed experiences.

I think the Dr you are seeing been a bit premature by asking you to reduce to 3 pumps because if that is what you need to be symptom-free, you should stay on that.
BUT you should have been advised a long time ago to increase the Utrogestan to 200 mgs (because you're on a high dose of estrogen.)

If nothing is found, you might want to consider if you need 4 pumps of gel- were you symptoms really bad and have you tried using less?

You can have a biopsy on its own - I've had that.

It's a biopsy of your womb lining.
You need to phone whoever deals with this and ask what it is- if it's a hysteroscopy as well or just a biopsy.
