Itchy Skin

One of my primary symptoms is itchy skin which at times drives me crazy. I have hydrocortisone cream from the GP for any patches I actually scratch raw but any recommendations for a more daily cream to help ease?

Eucerin 10% urea body lotion.

I don’t actually love how it feels on, but once it finally sinks in, it leaves skin looking, and feeling, amazing. I didn’t put any on last night after my shower because I’d just changed the sheets so didn’t want it all over the bedding, but I’m itching like mad now.

Moisturise moisturise moisturise. Use the blandest creams or lotions you can find. For me that means not too heavy (eg I can only use Eucerin on heels, elbows, knees) and definitely unfragranced. You might also want to switch your laundry products to unfragranced, or at the very least ditch any added fragrances like Unstoppables. I have a diagnosed fragrance allergy. But my elderly parents don’t have any allergies, and since they have switched to FF shampoo, shower gel and moisturiser their skin is much healthier. They still use fragranced laundry powder and conditioner.

I also suffered horribly from itchy skin and the online suggestion was to stop having hot baths.
I decided to keep having hot baths and slather myself in any rich lotion that I can find after I get out. It seems to work. I've perfected the art of getting the cream all over my back too!

Recommendations:
Clinique. I love their body lotion and their facial moisturiser. My skin just drinks them in and it never feels like there’s any greasy residue.
Palmers do an unfragranced range, but I find it a little heavy. O’Keefe is excellent.
Simple: hyaluronic serum. It’s not just for the face. Their shower gels are fine, but I prefer their block soap.
The stuff you put on your hair will also affect your skin as it flows over you when you rinse. I tend to use Faith in Nature unscented or Waitrose own-brand fragrance-free (Pure?) shampoos and conditioners. I find Simple drying, despite being ff.

Some people are very sensitive to SLS, the foaming agent in hand wash etc. That could also be affecting you. Block soap does not contain SLS, which may be why my skin prefers it.

HRT. It’s call Formication and it’s caused by lack of oestrogen.

Aveeno do an anti itch cream (pale blue lid) which has worked on the insane itching I was getting.

May need tweaking? What dose are you on?

The Mixa body cream with 5% urea is bliss. Sinks in well and has a light scent.
