HRT not helping with hot flushes, don't want antidepressants

Has anyone been prescribed anything other than antidepressants for hot flushes?

Mine are awful: pretty much constant and I just feel hot practically all the time. I am taking the highest dose of HRT.

I was taking citalopram for anxiety while my Dad was dying in hospital but have weened myself off it and would rather not take a similar drug as it just made me feel really tired all the time (and Citalopram is supposed to help hot flushes and it didn't in my case).

I have already tried several natural remedies, none of which have worked: sage, black cohosh, red clover and menopace.

And yes I have several blood tests to make sure nothing else is going on.

The usual medical advice is to try changing the type, so whatever you're on you could try patches, gel, spray or tablets.

There are some women who don't absorb transdermal HRT and tablets are fine if you're under 60 (and have no clotting risks.)

What are you using now?

If that doesn't work there is a newish drug for hot flushes that is not an AD.

Fezolinetant (also called Veoza and made by Astellas Pharma) is recommended to treat moderate to severe symptoms in final draft NICE guidance.

Hot flushes and night sweats can hugely affect daily life by disrupting sleep, concentration, relationships, and the ability to work, and when HRT is not suitable, options have previously been limited.

The fezolinetant 45mg tablet is taken once a day and is a non-hormonal treatment that works by blocking the nerve pathways in the brain that trigger hot flushes and night sweats.

I am currently on pills (Elleste Duet) after trying patches.

Thanks for the information.
