Does motivation improve after menopause or is this how it stays?

Im 55 and lost interest in a lot of things I used to do because of menopause. Gave up work five years ago and struggling to find another job. Does motivation get better after menopause? Don't want to be feeling like this for rest of my life.

I’m afraid I can’t answer the question as I’m only mid forties but also really struggling in last couple of years. High energy sector, need lots of self motivation to survive - and have started to want to do anything but work. I crave peace and calm and time alone. How did you afford to manage without work from 50? (Maybe you have inheritance or something, but I’m trying to plan a life that gives me more options because on my current trajectory I’d have to keep going to 67 and the arrival of my state pension at best)

If you are on HRT then low dose testosterone can help with motivation and drive as it increases dopamine. It seems to be giving me more energy and drive. You still have to direct your energy where you want it to go which can be challenging if you've been a bit out of it for a while but if you make a plan and follow though you do start to build some momentum that prior to trt I just couldn't build at all.

Not in my experience, no. I haven't totally lost motivation. I'm still very motivated to work. But for other things? No.

I’m 58, never had HRT so far, got to menopause at 55 and I have found motivation has improved quite a bit since my early 50s when it was quite low, which I do put down mainly to menopause symptoms. I am really enjoying my job and have more time and energy for everything else now the DCs are grown up. I expect I’ll be working until my mid 60s at least but this doesn’t worry me.

My older sister said it gets better after a tough year or so

Thankyou for the encouragement everyone. I'm on HRT and I am waiting the results for testosterone so that seems the way to go. I'll be flying to the moon soon😊

no reason, women in our age can't do that

I have absolutely no scientific background, but you know what I mean 😂😂

she didn't take HRT, but she said the general ugh of waiting for it all to finish that year was hard and now she's basically back to how she was before

You’re definitely not alone in feeling like this. A lot of women say menopause affected their energy, confidence, and motivation far more than they expected. For many people it does improve with time, especially once hormones settle and they find the right support, lifestyle changes, or treatment that works for them.
Try not to think this is necessarily “forever” plenty of women come out the other side feeling much more like themselves again.
