I had my first period in nine months three weeks ago.

Does that mean another is due shortly or is it more likely there'll be another long gap?

It was exactly the same as my periods always were. Tender breasts for a week beforehand, same length and amount of bleeding, same tummy pains on the first day.

Different for everyone you could go a few months again or just a few days

Rozendantz · 21/04/2026 16:27

3 months ago I had my 1st one in well over a year! It was a shock, but been having them every 4 weeks ever since.

So in your case it's anyone's guess I'm afraid. What fun this all is...

some people get an odd one out of the blue unexpectedly. usually during yoga or a wedding reception just to really be inconvenient! we are all different. maybe that’ll be you done now. keep using contraception though.

I’ve gone 8 months and 6 months then 21 days then 4 months then 30 days, 22 days, currently 9 months and counting…

Mine stopped for over a year when I was 42, which was odd, but I'd been prescribed some medication which had affected them. I didn't realise this at the time, and just thought I was having an early menopause.

Anyway, they started up again when I was 43 and became regular for another ten years. Then they gradually stopped when I was 53.

OP you must use contraception until it's been a year since your last one.
Two years if you're under 50.

I had an aunt who was still having them at 58, regular as clockwork.

Well if you're 56 there's one bit of good news, the NHS says you don't need to worry about contraception after 55.
