GP focusing on vitamin D deficiency instead of perimenopause treatment

Recently went to the doctors re my perimenopause systems, mostly anxiety but also trouble sleeping, mind blanks and weight gain . GO was very sympathetic and said to have a blood test to rule anything else out that could be causing these symptoms first - fine. The results have come back and shown I’m deficient in vitamin d , really low , and now they are messaging me and want an appointment about that … and seem to be focusing on that rather than me being menopausal- which I read menopause can cause the body to not process vitamin d .. so one is probably causing the other … but it feels like that is all the GP is interested in now .. surely the vitamin d issue adds weight to the fact I need to start some HRT?

They should be treating both your vitamin D deficiency AND your perimenopause symptoms. You can start Vit D3 supplements and HRT at the same time

If you have a vitamin D deficiency then you will feel immediately better very quickly once this is sorted out.
Also, why are you assuming that you won't be ok offered HRT as well? Have you even had the appointment yet?

I think you’re jumping the gun here a bit @mightyducks . Why do you feel they are not interested in the perimenopause bit? What have they actually done wrong here?

Honestly, it’s good they’re taking the Vit D deficiency seriously. So many GPs don’t. I would take the appointment and address/ correct that so you know what is truly peri symptoms vs just Vit D low.

Get the prescription for VitD and you will probably feel much better quickly. Then you can take it from There wrt HRT

Vitamin d deficiency will almost certainly be a cause of your symptoms; you would feel this way whatever age you had vitamin d deficiency. My son had it as a teenager, I had in my forties long before I hit menopause (55) You start with the vitamin d supplements and then see if that corrects the symptoms. It worked wonders for me without HRT
I had joint pain anxiety weight gain fatigue. All corrected.

I now take HRT as well, ten years later....I'm not against HRT at all but if I'd blamed my symptoms at 45 on perimenopause it would have not been the full picture. I was also diagnosed at 45 as hypothyroid. For which I take levothyroxine.

I have been offered an emergency appointment on Tuesday to discuss the vitamin d, have to wait 6 weeks to see the GP again re the menopause stuff , just feels like one is being prioritised over the other

That's because vitamin d deficiency is an emergency. It can make you very seriously ill if left unchecked and it's very easy to treat.
