Has anyone found a collagen supplement that helps menopausal joint stiffness?

I am suddenly getting very stiff and creaky joints. My cousin is a similar age (over 50) and in the same boat. We are debating various collagen products but they are all quite expensive per month.

We realise that the ‘substance’ whatever it is can take a while to build up in the system and improve joints but there seem to be many dubious adverts for totally unregulated products out there.

Can anyone genuinely recommend something that works? Thank you

I swear by ancient and brave bovine collagen. It makes a huge amount of difference to my hips and I wouldn’t be without it. I take a heaped teaspoon in coffee and can’t taste it. I know there are cheaper ones but this works for me.

I've been taking Marine collage gummies for 2 months, and my hair/nails/skin are amazing. But I've had random hip pain for years (am 55) and that was only cured by taking high strength vitamin D daily.

I don't take collagen but I swear by hyaluronic acid supplements..

I've had different strengths and brands but my favourite is Vegavero. It's not cheap for the bottle but lasts six months.

I can tell the difference when I haven't had it for a few days.

I can’t comment on collagen but thought it might be helpful to say that taking a regular vitamin D supplement has had a transformative effect on my joints. I’m mid fifties and was struggling with increasingly painful hips and knees but vitamin d has largely sorted it.

I agree, start with Vit D. The Better You spray in green bottle is good. It’s cheap and may do the job. Collagen is more expensive, especially the brands pushed on Instagram etc.

If you do go down Collagen route, Type II is the one you need for joints.

That's funny you've mentioned that, I've had my dog on a hyaluronic acid supplement for about a year and it's made a massive difference to him. Never thought of finding one for myself!

Swallowing collagen doesn't mean it ends up in your joints or on your face.

Pleased @Raera has linked the Sliced Bread (BBC) as I was just about to.

HRT often helps.

Listen to the sliced bread collagen episode before you spend any money.

Many thanks to everyone who responded.
I’ve just listened to the Sliced Bread podcast regarding collagen products and it’s certainly worth 29mins so thank you for pointing me in that direction.

Given the positive results PP had reported from Vitamin D, I'm going to try that first, especially as I already know that I (and most of the population accordingly to the GP) are deficient in Vitamin D.

And then I will probably listen again to the podcast before ‘investing’ in the various products.

So, thank you all. X
