Could a longer second period at 42 be perimenopause?

I've just turned 42 and usually have regular periods give or take 1 or 2 days here or there. In March, I had a 5 day long period starting on 11th and then a second period starting on 24th which is still ongoing though lighter than it was initially. It's been just like a second normal period though longer so definitely not just spotting.

Could this be the start of perimenopause? I've been under huge amounts of stress of work too so could it just be that? No other symptoms I can think of.

Hoping for advice from anyone that's had similar - feeling quite stressed about the fact it's going on for so long!

Yep. That was how it was my mine first went haywire during peri.
It would then either be two periods a month, sometimes a couple of weeks apart or just a few days apart like you are experiencing, then maybe a missing period one month, a 3 week period the next but, more commonly, the two bleeds in a month. I took to wearing panty liners daily so I wouldn’t get caught out by surprise. It was hell.

Yes, I’ve had this into late 30s/early 40s. Was told it was an anovulatory cycle.

Thanks for replying, it's reassuring to hear both your experiences. Just hope it stops soon. It's a bit draining!

One of my first symptoms of perimenopause, was two bleeds a month, which eventually turned into me bleeding for two whole weeks every month, and the flow was HEAVY. 😫
