I’m 52, still have regular periods but definitely in peri menopause. I suffer from eczema but the skin on my face is getting a lot worse. I have contact allergies to sodium meta bisulphite, gallate and linalool (and all fragrance). Avoiding these has meant my eczema has been totally manageable.

Has anyone got a recommendation for a non fragranced face cream that works for v dry skin at our age? Aveeno/dipro or double base and any normal eczema moisturisers do not cut it. I’m thinking perhaps an ointment if there is one?

Consider Nivea Creme - blue pot (tin).

I really recommend Weleda Skin Food.

54 and gone so allergic too. Weleda skin food toner, and I use Zoe Bee moisturiser (the aloe one) super hydrating. The Upcircle oat cleansing also good. I have worked out that Acetate is also a trigger, Tocepherol is fine (vit e) but not the acetate kind. Believe me I’ve been down the rabbit hole and back!

Thanks so much - I will look for these!

Weleda skin food is highly fragranced and aggravates my akin
i find layering products helps my peri-meno dry skin
so a hylauronic serum, moisturiser and a facial oil (plus a facial mist) all help loc moisture in

Illiyoon. You can buy it in boots and Amazon. It is completely game changing and so moisturising. Packed full of ceramides. Just gorgeous and not too pricey.

Noshadelamp · 28/03/2026 12:37

Weleda skin food contains linalool op.

I have liked all the following : La Roche Posay cicaplast baume, Inkey List bio-active ceramides moisturiser, CeraVe moisturising cream ( not the lotion), Naturium multi peptide cream.

I'd try Clinique for 'anti ageing ' stuff, or some of the brands for your type of skin.

Avene
La Roche Posay
CeraVe
Eucerin

Olay Regenerist ( day cream, unperfumed) is nice too - Amazon is cheapest.

I have used Nivea before ( as a cheap alterantive) and it didn't suit my skin because of the perfume in it (I also suffer from occasional eczema.)

HedgeWitchOfTheWest · 28/03/2026 13:38

I’m prone to eczema and have quite sensitive skin. I grew up using the Nivea blue but when my skin fell apart a couple of years ago it was La Roche Posay Cicaplast that fixed it. It’s really soothing

TrashHeap · 28/03/2026 13:49

I use the original blue pot Nivea creme, as I am in perimenopause and it's perfect for that, however it's scented with limonene.

I have a mild case of psoriasis, and sometimes it encroaches across my forehead (RUDE), so when this happens I use a home made formula made up of 250g of raw shea butter, and two tablespoons of olive oil. I melt the shea butter down using a bain-marie, and add the olive oil. Once its melted, I whip it using an electric whisk, and put it in a glass jar. No added scents, and believe me your skin will be very moisturised.

You can use it all over your body.

I second this ,I'm on my 4th bottle. I use it mixed with Estee Lauder advance night repair before bed.

Tryonemoretime · 05/04/2026 22:26

I use Cetraben. It's a bit greasy, but I blot it and then put foundation / make up on top. It was recommended by a dermatologist after I had a serious reaction to a well known make. Nivea makes my skin burn.

WideOpenBeaches · 05/04/2026 22:44

Not sure of ingredients but I’ve had great success using CeraVe stuff on my face. It’s a dark blue tube and it looks like ointment.
i dab it on before bed.

Inwhitelights · 05/04/2026 23:02

This is amazing. It’s the only thing I’ve found that goes anywhere near my terribly dry skin. It’s a lovely cooling gel consistency, absorbs really easily, non sticky and also plumps your skin too. Well worth the money imo.

Avene skin soothing cream is pretty amazing

Occasionalcyclist · 05/04/2026 23:13

I use Oilatum. It's an emollient and until a few years ago it would have been far too heavy/greasy for my face but since my skin became very dry and sore it's been brilliant.
