Hormonal chin spots while on HRT during menopause, budget-friendly tips?

Currently on HRT for meno. For the past few months, maybe more than a few, I keep getting hormonal spots on my chin and it's doing my head in.

I am an avid user of Aveeno Calm & Restore as it's the only thing that doesn't cause my sensitive skin to react. I've also been using hydrocortisone cream spread thinly on my chin overnight (I know, I know), but the buggers still aren't shifting, or they do but then come back again.

I don't have much spare cash, but can anyone recommended their tried and trusted methods?

I've got more spots now than I ever did as a teenager!!!! TIA

What type of spots? If the cyst like ones then buy a hydrocolloid roll. Same stuff as the pimple patches but you can cut out your own shapes and size. Helps suck all the gunk out overnight.

@Ineedanaptoo They typically don't have a head (the odd one does though), and are just red and angry. Would hydrocolloid work with these buggers?

Acnecide cream is good too, you can now buy it over the counter but shop around as it’s on offer sometimes in the supermarket and can be £5 a tube instead of £10.

It sounds like they are deep under the skin and cystic if no heads? A course of low level antibiotics might be worth a try from your GP. I’ve had lymecycline in the past. I ended up having roaccutane in the end as mine was quite bad - but the antibiotics and cream did help

Agree re lymecycline, I have to take it alongside my HRT to keep the spots in check unfortunately

I have the same issue although not on HRT - that made them worse. I went to GP who said first line is acnecide - if that doesn’t work in 4 eeeks she will prescribe the next ‘level’. I def don’t want antibiotics but I’ll take an antibiotic face wash.

the hydrocolloid worked on mine but did take a couple of days. And applying ice to help reduce inflammation. Might Patch do some spot parches that have microneedles that are supposed to be amazing but not cheap. If hormonal then may need to speak to the doctor about the imbalance of hormones and may need adjusting.

It's usually the progesterone that causes the spots. (I get the odd one on my chin too during the progesterone phase.)

You might want to consider changing the type of progesterone - if you're on patches that contain Norethisterone that is one of the worst as it's androgenic, meaning it's more 'male' and can cause acne/ spots.

Using hydrocortisone isn't the right thing for spots- it's for inflammation and eczema type skin problems.

Have a think about the type of HRT you're on perhaps?

Thanks all. I think I'll try Acnecide as a first port of call.
