For those who went private……

Hi everyone,
With the lack of GP expertise and time to see you I was contemplating going private: however I wondered how much money I would roughly need.
For people that went private (Newson clinic etc) how much has it cost you to get your symptoms completely sorted? (Meaning blood tests, follow ups etc)

About £1500, then I got my NHS GP to prescibe HRT

I paid £250 for first appointment, no bloods taken though. Not the Newsom clinic though

Menopause Plan with BUPA, £250 from memory. Worth every penny.

I paid £70 for a menopause test from superdrug that you do at home and post back and then went to the menopause care clinic as they offered virtual or in person appointments and did the pay monthly amount which I think at the time was £90 and would have covered all HRT. But as I wasnt able to get HRT straight away they ended up cancelling the monthly payment and I just paid for a single appointment.

But that would have been my total costs if they had prescribed it. And sometimes just that initial appointment is enough for them to write to your GP and then the GP will then prescribe.

I wasnt able to get HRT straight away but that letter meant the GP finally agreed that I could have HRT once another health issue was looked at, and then I did eventually get it prescribed on the NHS.

If I didnt do the monthly payment I believe a one off appointment was just under £300

About 350 for initial consultation, and 250ish annually for check up and blood test. I get testosterone privately so pay for that too. Absolutely worth it, has saved my life and I don't say that lightly.

It varies.

A first appointment with a consultant gynaecologist is around £300-£350.
For that you get around 45 minutes.

The follow up appts are less as they are 30 minutes and can be anything from £250 or a bit more.

Every consultant is different. I have appts roughly once every 6 months as a 'review'.

I've only had bloods done once at the very start and another several years later more as an overall health check of my thyroid etc.
My consultant (one of the best!) doesn't check hormone levels as they say it's not needed and to go on symptoms only.

My prescription of Oestrogen gel, Utrogestan, and vaginal estrogen, is private and I spend around £25 a month on that.

So, you'd be looking at around £600 a year for the appts and then the cost of whatever HRT you're on.
