Vaginal estrogen - give me hope!

Hello all.

I've been struggling with severe vaginal atrophy symptoms that came on pretty quickly. I have been prescribed vagifem which I'm using. The specialist warned me it might take 3 months to make a difference.

I'm 1.5 months in and not feeling any better and am very sorry for myself. Can anyone reassure me that it will get better? Has anyone had experience of things turning upwards after a few months of seemingly no improvement?

P.s am doing the other things like YES moisturizer and only washing with emollient etc.

I'd love to hear your experiences if you have been where I am now

Thanks!

they’d taken me off the gel as that made me bleed constantly unless I split the dose which the doctor thought was bollocks and wasn’t impressed I was doing. So this is an improvement!!
the progesterone also gives me a migraine so I think your right it does need some adjusting.

Edited

Of course you can split the dose (especially for women on 4 pumps a day) although it won't make any difference to bleeding half way through the cycle, as you're still getting the same amount over 24 hours.

Are you still in peri, were you having your own periods before HRT and are you on a high dose of estrogen?

You sound like you know your schizzle!! Thank you for replying, sometimes it’s nice just to be heard isn’t it. I used to do one pump in the morning and one in the evening and it weirdly did stop the bleeding, the doctor didn’t want me doing that though. I think they thought it might be better just to change to something that may suit me better.

yes I’ve been asking for hrt since I was 38 as I knew I wasn’t right, had vaginal atrophy, hot flushes etc. I’m 44 now, still regular every month and started hrt just over 6 months ago after a massive fight, not a high dose as far as I know - it’s evorel 50.

@ElspethTassione , it was much, much quicker than that: I noticed the following in the first month of internal application of the cream as prescribed by my GP, and external application as advised by a friend:
•no more internal dryness or itching
•a return of natural 'wetness'
•increased sensation in vulva and clitoris
•'re-plumping' of both sets of labia
•reduction in stressy bladder
•relief from heaviness in pelvis, indicative of early prolapse

I sent my GP a card to thank her, I was so relieved! I've since started mixing a tiny amount into my moisturiser after hearing it can relieve facial wrinkles too, but the jury is out on that one.

The username is biblical, I remember it as an inscription under a picture at school.

Not read whole thread. I have an est-ring which is a plastic ring that you put in your vagina and leave in for 3 months, then swap for a new one. It helps me with dryness a lot. Oh it releases Oestrogen daily, nearly forgot to say that

Coming to this a bit late sorry.

Took over three months for me to see an improvement and I assume the estriol is what helped.

During your period it should be ok - especially if you insert it with your finger and rub it on the vaginal wall that is linked to your bladder.

Another thing I’ve done is slather it on my tampon. No idea if that’s recommended or not!
