Had full hysterectomy in 2019,have been taking Hrt in tablet form which works great for me.Dr told me to change to spray.Feel terrible on it.I’ve also tried patches and gel but I end up going back to the tablet as it works well for me.Anybody else had a similar experience?

Me . I take HRT after hysterectomy. No way would I change to anything other than tablet . Why is she suggesting this . No reason for it and I would stand my ground . If it is working for you stay on it . This came up in a previous thread . Again I wonder if it's a money saving thing with the NHS now.

What reason was given?

It's appalling that some GPs behave like this.
You are supposed to be 'consulted' over your choice of HRT.

Tablet form is fine except for women over age 60. Or for women with higher BP and perhaps clot risks.

I think you need to go back and express your concerns.
If necessary maybe see a different GP.

@Nofeckingway tablet form HRT is dirt cheap.
patches, gel and spray cost more.

I’m 56 and she is saying Hrt in tablet form can be hard on the liver.I get blood tests twice a year so if there was an issue I think it would show up.I just know myself I feel great when taking the tablet and the alternatives just don’t work for me.

It does go through the liver first, compared to transdermal HRT, but unless you have liver disease it's not an issue.

If it was so dangerous why would it be available?

Are you in the UK? Have you some underlying condition that necessitates 6-monthly blood tests ? Is that what's behind the change of HRT?

Sammy137park · 08/03/2026 19:29

No I don’t have any health issues,I just have blood tests twice a year for my own peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice, I’m going to see another doctor and tell them I want to change back to tablet form.

I am in the so called risk category but regular tests prove nothing of concern . I feel I am more of risk of severe mental damage without it . So I am willing to take the risks . Plus there is so much misinformation and different doctors have different opinions.

Sammy137park · 08/03/2026 19:54

Absolutely agree, the risk of damage to my mental health is just not worth it.

I didn't get on with patches. I'm tablet all the way!

Are you having those privately?
Does your GP get the results?

Sammy137park · 08/03/2026 21:13

Yes I get them done with gp so she gets the results.

I'm just curious how you can ask for blood tests if you are healthy.
Usually the NHS only does them if necessary and something needs checking.
What are they testing you for?

Sammy137park · 08/03/2026 21:28

I live in Ireland. You can get routine blood tests done if you request them.
