No hot flushes- is it possible?

Hi, I am 45 and have been confirmed by my GP as in menopause, which came as quite a surprise! I knew things weren’t quite right and I have had memory issues, sleep issues, burning mouth, migraine, intense skin itching etc but no one single hot flush. Has anyone gone through menopause without having them? I was under the impression that you couldn’t avoid them? I have a follow up appointment with my GP next week so I am going to ask her, but I just wanted to know if it’s unusual.

I only had a couple, symptoms vary for all. It’s not compulsory to have them!

I just felt a bit warm now and then that was all. Little did I know that the lack of estrogen would hit me like a steam train in the form of vaginal atrophy. Easily sorted with estriol cream on prescription but my God it was utterly debilitating so keep an eye on any urinary changes x

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/03/2026 10:08

I looked forward to the hot flushes (I am a generally cold person) and never got any. My menopause was almost totally symptomless - except, as for a pp, vaginal atrophy. I now have Oestrodol pessaries which seem to have sorted that out, so I have mostly cruised through the whole thing.

I think menopause is much like many other things, parenting, men, children, money - people really only shout if they are having a bad time and you don't get to hear about all those who are just bumbling along more or less all right.

Shittyyear2025 · 06/03/2026 10:13

My mum always said she felt somehow jealous of colleagues as she never once got a hot flush and believes her menopause was 'done' during a time of great stress so a horrid 6 months of bereavement, grief and bang, menopause.

I've suffered like a bitch (2 frozen shoulders, night sweats, utterly debilitating brain fog, mood swings, depression, insomnia, all over 5 years and the hot sweats hit me like a brick last November. Fortunately managed by HRT now.

mondaytosunday · 06/03/2026 10:14

I’m 63 and had a symptomless menopause, as did a couple friends. Just increasingly irregular periods until they stopped. No brain fog, no aches or pains, no irritability and no hot flushes! I know I’m very lucky - my mother had an awful time and I was dreading it.

itsthetea · 06/03/2026 10:16

Pretty symptomless here too
need to eat less sugar to avoid poor sleep and that’s about it really

the symptoms that people do get vary quite widely

about ? 25% get no symptoms at all

tigger1001 · 06/03/2026 10:17

I've had no hot flushes as such. Night sweats were a thing for a while but theve calmed down (fingers crossed)

sashh · 06/03/2026 10:18

I had one, and it is debatable that that wasn't caused by alcohol.

So yes it can.

MyThreeWords · 06/03/2026 10:20

Yes, entirely possible. My only menopausal symptom was heavy periods for a while then suddenly no periods. It's important to remember that it is only complications of the menopause, not the menopause itself, that creates problems for some women.

NoisyBrain · 07/03/2026 14:04

I've been in peri for 5-6 years and have never had a hot flush or night sweat. I've had many, many other symptoms to make up for it though!

FlowerFairyDaisy · 07/03/2026 14:05

I didn’t have any symptoms at all. Am now post menopause.

ASixtySix · 07/03/2026 14:09

I didn’t get hot flushes but suffered more psychologically. I had terrible anxiety and felt as if I wasn’t me. I started to hate being around people and ended up with a divorce, left my job (of 20 years) and lost friends. Totally different person to what I was. Never offered HRT. Now almost 54, periods stopped abruptly at 45.

GentleSheep · 07/03/2026 14:17

Hot flushes were the only symptom I had (same as my mother). Pretty awful at the time, but gone now thankfully. Also I discovered eating wheat made them far worse so I'm gluten free now.

PistachioTiramisu · 07/03/2026 14:19

I never had hot flushes or night sweats - but I did have awful incredibly heavy periods for a while - tranexamic acid sorted that out. My mother was the same - no problems at all - so it certainly can be a thing.

PeacockPalace · 07/03/2026 17:01

I’ve had zero symptoms; periods stopped a year ago. I feel fantastic. I know I’m very lucky.

Miranda65 · 07/03/2026 17:05

Totally possible. I never had a hot flush - only symptom was cessation of periods (hurrah!).

RaraRachael · 07/03/2026 17:06

I never had hot flushes nor many other of the usual symptoms.

Ferdyandthegingerone · 07/03/2026 17:15

I have all the symptoms….except hot flushes. Never had one of those, despite very clearly being peri. Am fucked off today because my period had buggered off for 3 months….thought that might be the beginning of the end but she’s made a very painful reappearance today 🤬

BauhausOfEliott · 07/03/2026 17:26

Loads of women don’t get hot flushes.

Dontcallmescarface · 07/03/2026 17:40

I had no symptoms at all. The only reason I knew I'd hit menopause was through a blood test. I was 36 at the time, I'm 60 now and I've never had a hot flush.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/03/2026 17:41

My mum didn’t have any symptoms at all. Her periods just became irregular and stopped.

Flomingho · 08/03/2026 04:02

My mother said she didn't get one hot flush. I get them a lot but have found menopace as a supplement helps, along with cutting down on caffeine, watching what I eat and drink and sometimes zi find stress makes them worse.

I am jealous, but this is good.

SuperBlondie28 · 08/03/2026 16:20

No hot flushes or night sweats for me. Before hrt or during. I'm through peri now.

In exchange, my digestive system has gone to hell instead. Easily my worse symptom 😕

cramptramp · 08/03/2026 16:25

I had no symptoms of the menopause as all. So yes, it is possible.
