Endless bleeding

Is there a point at which I should start to worry about bleeding that just goes on and on? I've basically been menstruating since the beginning of the year. I finally stopped at the weekend and then I started again this afternoon!

Not particularly painful, thankfully, but I have been taking iron tablets for it.

Have you seen a GP? The very same thing happened to me last year, I pretty much bled for 3 months and at times I was literally flooding my pads very quickly.
I needed up being very anemic, they did my bloods, sent off a stool sample due to the anemia.. I suppose to rule out anything else.. and had to out my on strong iron tablet's, they also did both internal and external ultrasounds to rule out anything nasty so had a thorough check up.

It finally stopped and weirdly went back to normal.

It's not normal and far too long to just put up with it! If this was a friend or daughter you would say they should go to GP

I've had times of ridiculous long periods and it was fibroid. Had them removed and it stopped.

Please take your own notes to show how long it's been going on for as, in my experience, GP's have said to keep track and come back in 3 months!!

I also had tranexamix (sp?) that reduced flow so there's something they can give you straight away

My gynaecologist was insistent I had a coil fitted at the same time as fibroid op. I had to be very firm to decline. I woke up and every other woman in recovery was being told to give it 6 months with the coil while things settle down. While I had all my bleeding resolved instantly. Glad I declined the coil.

I was late 40's with fibroid op. Definitely peri. I've had a polyp op since and now post menopause and HRT has finally kicked in and finally getting regular sleep again!

Please go to GP and look advocate for yourself

I had extremely heavy bleeding for about 6 months. So bad that I'd change my pad then by the time I reached the toilet door, it would be flooded again. Not idea when you're a teacher and can't go to the toilet whenever your need to.
It totally took over my life and I couldn't go anywhere without finding out if there were toilets nearby.

My doctor sent me to a specialist who suggested a hysterectomy. It totally changed my life.

Hope you get good advice and get it sorted out quickly.

Sorry I'm going to be that annoying poster who drip-feeds information but I was tired and fed up when I posted originally so I hope you'll forgive me for not clarifying earlier.

I already know that I have fibroids. I also have a cyst on my ovary which is benign. I had a scan of it at the end of 2025.

The bleeding is fairly constant (or was until a couple of days ago) but not as horrendously heavy as some other posters have described. I can, for example, use a cup and generally wear it for 6/7 hrs without any issue.

Ultimately I would rather put up with the bleeding than have an operation if it's not a sign of something more awful. But it's helpful to hear of other people's experiences. I think I just wanted to moan to be honest!

Sending love to those experiences far worse than me.
