Hello - can anyone recommend a menopause specialist in the south east / Cambridge/ London are who is particularly good at treating vaginal atrophy? I ask as the standard treatments are not fully helping and I've tried them all now. I feel I could do with an expert now. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what else a specialist could do for you on this.

There are no other treatments available for VA other than what's available on the NHS. There is an Estring which you can get via your GP, or the usual forms of vaginal estrogen along with some moisturisers.

The is also the option of DHEA which is sometimes used (have a read on it.) That may be available privately, so it's something to look at.

OR you may need to use the vaginal creams etc more often OR use systemic HRT too. Vagifem can be used 5 x a week, for example, not just twice because the dose is lower than it used to be, so 5 x a week is the same as 2 x a week with the old version.

How much of all of these have you tried so far?

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells useful info but I think I'd like to discuss with a specialist

I'd try googling those cities or the British Menopause Society website/specialists.

If you find anyone you can run it by me as I am familiar with a lot in London. I don't know anyone who says they are experts in VA but most menopause gynaes should be able to help.

Have you considered a women’s health physio?

BinkyRain · 01/03/2026 21:15

Thanks @MissyB1 but I am sure it is atrophy as the dryness when I don't use moisturizer is excruciating. It is not a case of tense muscles alone.

I've PM-d you a recommendation @BinkyRain. I got referred on the NHS, but she also does private practice. My referral was for lichen sclerosis, I'm not sure you'd get referred for VA but could see the same specialist privately- huge waiting list either way.

For anyone else interested, it's a 'vulval dermatologist' who specialises. I was referred to them by an NHS Gynaecologist.

Thanks @101trees
