Reducing night sweats

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 28/02/2026 10:51

I'm in a chemically-induced menopause and the night sweats are really getting to me! The HRT I'm on is fixed so I can't tweak that.

Is there anything I can do to reduce them?

Sounds grim

Exercise more
eat less sugar / no alcohol

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 28/02/2026 20:04

Thanks. I barely drink booze, 1 a week at most. Sugar is pretty minimal...

I've just started on the Sainsburys menopause vits which seem to help. Also the twining cooling tea.

Ilovemyshed · 28/02/2026 20:22

And try reducing caffeine.

Christine0708 · 28/02/2026 22:37

Why can’t you tweak your HRT? I’m on separate Oestrogen patches and utrogestan progesterone. I have had my patch increased from 50 to 75. What HRT are you on as sounds like you need your oestrogen increased.

Switch to sheets and blankets rather than duvet. You can then layer for warmth / cooling down and they seem to trap the heat differently to duvets which I find don’t let skin breathe or temperature regulate.

AnneofBohemia · 28/02/2026 22:51

try not to eat a large meal too close to your bedtime, cool the room/ open windows before hand, maybe take a coolish shower to cool your body down before you go to sleep? A few ideas perhaps worth a try!

Alpacajigsaw · 28/02/2026 22:53

I wish I knew, I am on HRT but still wake soaked every night. I don’t drink alcohol and not much caffeine.

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 28/02/2026 22:54

Magnesium butter.

I have fewer since I had the Mirena coil fitted - is that an option as part of your HRT package

MiniMidiMaxi · 28/02/2026 23:03

I switched to a wool duvet and it made quite a big difference.

SirChenjins · 28/02/2026 23:07

A thin summer weight wool duvet
Sage leaf
Magnesium glycinate
A fan beside your bed
Cotton sheets
Cotton pyjamas/short set

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 28/02/2026 23:15

A cooling pillow helps.

sociableintrovert123 · 01/03/2026 09:18

I would also question why your HRT can’t be tweaked (ie oestrogen component increased). Unless you’re on the highest dose available.

BitterlyLemon · 01/03/2026 11:48

Someone recommended Sage tablets on here. I’ve started taking them this week. I found some research that says they do decrease night sweats so that’s definitely worth looking into.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 01/03/2026 20:40

Thanks for all these tips.

I'm on Ryeqo for endometriosis, which shuts down my remaining ovary and then provides estrogen replacement and something else. Basically it's the only option left for me with my endo and it's working so far, so I'm not going to tweak with that! Ryeqo can't be combined with other HRT.

The cooling pillow sounds like a great option. I already sleep in just cotton, I'll look for some lighter cotton nighties as they seem to be more manageable than the tees and trouser combos.

I'll have a look at some of the other suggestions as well. Thank you!

Get a silent night cooling blanket, best purchase i have ever made

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 01/03/2026 23:54

I agree I always used to wear t-shirt pjs. Sleeveless cotton nighties is the way to go

hedgheog · 02/03/2026 18:28

Ilovemyshed · 28/02/2026 20:22

And try reducing caffeine.

This, helps a lot!

capricorn12 · 02/03/2026 19:50

Hot water bottle filled and put in the freezer for a few hours will stay reasonably frozen for ages so you can keep it at close hand to cool you and the bed. I have also found that sage tablets help.

ForAmusedHazelQuoter · 02/03/2026 19:53

The only thing that worked for me was my HRT. I had to come off it for six weeks for an operation and they returned with a vengeance. They were absolutely debilitating.

PuzzlingRecluse · 02/03/2026 19:54

I came on to say wool duvet, been an absolute game changer got me.

I hope you find something that helps x

Flourshiba · 02/03/2026 19:56

I’m not sure if you’re able to take it due to contra indications, but high dose evening primrose oil and sage capsules really helped me x

1Messycoo · 02/03/2026 20:00

Wool duvet worked for me !
