Your doctor is talking nonsense - irregular periods are just one possible symptom of perimenopause and as you can see, you have loads of others! A lot of GPs are not up to date with current guidance re managing perimenopause 🙄

Definitely sounds like peri to me, but definitely important to take a vitamin D3 supplement too if you are deficient, which most of us are

I would recommend using the Balance app to log your symptoms, sleep, mood, nutrition and activity levels for a few weeks - this will give you evidence for when you go back to the doctor. Also, if you haven't already, do some reading around treatment options for peri so you know what to ask for. I'm on HRT and can recommend it very highly

LadyMinerva · 24/02/2026 09:11

You are not going mad, I promise you. Your symptoms are classic peri and you are the prime age for it. It's hard to say what will work for you as i'm afraid that's a journey you need to discover yourself. Just know that you are not alone and there are so many here ready to hear you and offer you their solutions. But i would start by finding another dr.

OvernightBloats · 24/02/2026 09:22

Ask to see another doctor preferably one who has a specialism in women's health. Explain that these are the classic signs of perimenopause and you would like to try HRT to see if this helps. It should be an option available to you (unless there are health reasons that you are unable to take it).

The doctor you saw is maybe not seeing the whole picture and focusing on lack of Vitamin D for some reason. It could be a factor but you do sound you are experiencing the symptoms of perimenopause.

TheGoddessAthena · 24/02/2026 09:26

Your GP is talking out of his arse. Please go back and ask to see someone else.

You are 45 and having night sweats and anxiety - what's more likely... you're approaching menopause, or all of a sudden vitamin D deficiency is an issue when it hasn't been before.

The lack of knowledge of some GPs makes me very angry.

Merseymum1980 · 24/02/2026 15:10

Thamk you ladies, i think im going to call and see if i can see a female doctor x

By all means see a female doctor if that would make you more comfortable. I'm sorry to say though, that some female doctors are also utterly useless and are not following guidelines. It might be worth asking whether there is a women's health / menopause specialist at your practice - this may be a nurse prescriber rather than a doctor

I started with 2 pumps, it's quite a normal starting dose

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/03/2026 19:51

I’ve been thinking about this too. You do sound peri. I’m 45 next month and one minute I’m fine then I get the rage then I want to cry. My periods have always been irregular but last cycle was 22 days. One before was 50 something!

What you’re describing sounds really overwhelming and many women feel shocked by how suddenly things can seem to change in their 40s. Perimenopause can start even when periods are still regular because hormone fluctuations begin years before menopause itself.

Night sweats, anxiety, difficulty getting back to sleep and increased irritability are all experiences that some women notice during this transition, especially when stress has also been high. Vitamin D and stressful life events can absolutely play a role too, so it’s often a combination rather than just one single cause.

If you can, it might help to start gently noticing patterns sleep, mood, cycle changes, stress levels and take that information back to your GP or a menopause specialist so you can explore what support would feel right for you.

The Balance app is really useful for recording these details

My periods were irregular from mid 40's then pill for two years and no period and had one since when I was 46. Not a period since and all my rage and anxiety is gone. I was never offered hrt and assumed i would be having a female doctor so i can only assume I am out the other side at this point but i had all the symptoms I just had no information.

Thank you for coming back to me. I am wondering. I seem to be having everything minus the hot flushes

moanycoo · 06/04/2026 20:00

How are you getting on with your HRT @Merseymum1980? I am 2 weeks into starting Evorel sequi. I have a lot riding on this. Im 44 and symptoms have hit me like a train. Its the stiffness around neck, shoulders, ribs and all the joint pain...new pain everyday, that's tipping me over the edge...anyone else have the pain? and did the HRT help with it??

Fingers crossed its been an absolute miracle for my anxiety. Unfortunatley ive started bleeding on it and getting tummy cramping. My doc told me to reduce to one pump but im.still bleeding. Hate this middle age thing!
How are you finding it .
It did also really help with joint pain and night sweats x

@Merseymum1980 Glad to hear its helping a bit. I have started bleeding, wasnt expecting it for another 2 weeks, the end of my first pack. My cycle was always so predictable as well. I think irregular bleeding is normal in the first 3 months.

The joys!!! X
