Do any supplements work??

Hi. I’ve been on HRT patches for 2 years - not perfect, but good enough and I can only use patches. My social media feeds are packed with ads for Ankhway mushroom gummies, Nutrition Geeks bundles, various tablets to address cortisol issues. Do any of these actually work? I’ve tried NG meno bundle and stopped cos wasn’t sure they were doing anything except denting my bank balance. But I do have a classic menopausal belly that I cannot shift - I exercise 3X a week, walk a lot, eat a largely Michael Mosley-type diet. I’ve cut back on alcohol but cannot move the belly overhang. According to the ads, all I need is a cortisol-reducing supplement. Does anyone take something that they feel has a positive effect?

Do any supplements work

No.

Less food and more exercise :)

That’s probably what I needed to hear tbh 😂

OP I can’t help with menopausal belly but are you having any other menopause related symptoms such as hair thinning ? I ask because after breast cancer surgery last year I was put on hormone therapy which brought on early menopause and my hair was coming out in clumps because of the oestrogen reduction. I was at breaking point until someone recommended Biotin supplements and Bare Anatomy anti hair fall shampoo - both available from Amazon. After a few months my hair is visibly better and the front which was thinning alarmingly is much better with the patches growing back. Something to think about if you’re similarly affected at any point.

@DotAndCarryOne2 , gosh sorry to hear you’ve had breast cancer. I hope you are recovering/have recovered well.
For me it really is the overhanging belly, which according to fb/insta, can be cured with a variety of supplements. Or, probably @JinglingSpringbells has it more accurately 😄.

@AvonCallingBarksdale nope. The only thing that has any positive effect for me is a ton of magnesium to sleep.

If i drop to 1200 calories for 4 weeks (and I mean strict) I lose 4kg. And the belly.

It can be done but it is hard work.

And sadly no, just eating the right things doesn't work. It has to less of everything!

I do take magnesium glycinate mainly at night to help with sleep, and the nutrition geeks calm supplements with ashwganda. I really find they make a difference to my anxiety spiralling during the day- I guess that would help with menopause belly/cortisol belly (which I also have) but it’s mainly my brain function and anxiety that I needed to address so they work for that.

I bought the ankway mushroom gummies and they do seem to supercharge my brain- I can get a pile of work done like having a strong coffee, but I feel a bit jittery/on edge with them so I’m not entirely sure how they reduce cortisol as that seems the opposite to me but maybe I’ve not taken them for long enough.

Apparently eating a packet of randoms or squashes anything with gelatine will have the same effect as all of these supplements on your nails hair etc
