Do you have cold flushes?

Women talk about hot flushes; what about cold flushes?
Sometimes I experience sudden coldness, and I can be quite moody. I have tingling feelings and shivers in bed.

God yes, cold to my bones 🥶

Mercurial1 · 23/01/2026 15:17

I'm 2 years into chemo-induced menopause, and yes, the minute my mega flush is done, I am absolutely freezing. Not getting better with time either. It sucks.

giddyboo · 23/01/2026 15:22

Yes. I also have a tingling feeling all over like ive got tiny needles being forced out of my skin.

Imsixtyandiknowit · 23/01/2026 15:48

Yes.
Couple of times a week, usually at night.

mondaytosunday · 23/01/2026 15:54

Yes but I don’t associate it with menopause. I’ve never had a hot flush. And I’m years past menopause now (63) and I have on occasion gone under my covers still shivering.

Emptinest · 23/01/2026 16:00

I had cold flashes in perimenopause, usually at night where I would suddenly feel overwhelmingly cold even though I couldn't possibly be that cold. It lasted for a few months then disappeared as quickly as it started. Then about 2 years later I started getting hot flashes. I'd take the cold over the hot for sure.

mamakoukla · 23/01/2026 16:26

Do you find that your body temperature drops? I’m finding sometimes it drops as low as 35.5 C (oral thermometer).

LostinMenoTransition · 23/01/2026 21:14

I must confess, my husband sleeps in another room. I am in my own bed, in layers and sometimes covered by two duvets.
I only had hot flushes for a couple of weeks last year , that is it.. Not sure about this year.

@mamakoukla I have no idea what my body temperature is. Maybe others will know.

Yes me..didn't have hot flushes but only cold ones which were quite unpleasant!

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/01/2026 21:18

I’m in peri & had weird kind of cold sweaty flushes for a while, but a friend recommended Menopace Max which seems to have got rid of them.

EmeraldRoulette · 23/01/2026 21:21

I've always had them, so I don't associate it with my age

My mum has also always had them

I find it really annoying when people assume that due to my age, I must have hot flushes, but when I say that I have cold flushes, people just look at me like I'm nuts!
So I'm relieved to see this!

But I've always had this. Is it a low blood pressure thing? Suddenly, my body temperature will drop and I really struggle to get warm. I have to have ALL the coverings in bed.

When I visited Palm Springs one winter, it was 20 or so during the day, and then dropped down to 5 after dark. I couldn't manage the sudden change in temperature - I spent two evenings in bed instead of going out with my friends, with a hot water bottle, thinking I was coming down with a cold. But I wasn't. We were only there for a few days, beautiful place, but my body just cannot process the temperature change.

Arlanymor · 23/01/2026 21:22

YES! I was only saying to my mum the other day how no one ever talks about this! I get cold and hot flushes and never used to get either pre-menopause. The cold are worse than the hot as you just cannot get warm even if you truss yourself up in a billion blankets with the heating full on - it's a full on cold sweat that sinks into your bones.

ILoveVitaminSea · 24/01/2026 09:31

Keep an eye on thyroid if you feel cold intolerance.

bunbun0 · 24/01/2026 09:34

Possibly get thyroid checked with dr - this is a symptom of low thyroid - which is so so similar to peri menopause/full menopause symptoms - I’ve been the same and had bloods done just been told super low T4 levels which is why the cold flashes have kicked in

Egglio · 24/01/2026 09:38

Yes I have these! I didn't know they were a thing until I was sat with DP and piled hot water bottles, two blankets and the cat on me. He said 'oh are you having a cold flush?' I had never heard of it before, so huge thanks to the woman at my DPs work who ran a menopause training session for them all!

LostinMenoTransition · 25/01/2026 13:34

I had my thyroid checked, and the results were normal.
Still peri, will it change when I reach menopause? I don't know. 🤔

Yes mine is being tested six monthly though always comes back as borderline which is annoying - it's been borderline every time it has been tested for the past nearly 30 years.

Handeyethingyowl · 25/01/2026 13:52

I am always cold and find it hard to get warm often. It started when I had kids although I’ve had blood tests since then for various things and no other symptoms of thyroid issues. My house is a very cold one though which can’t help. I am now 47 and had a different type of cold flush before my last period, which came after a really long cycle, where I felt kind of odd like I was coming down with something, even though everyone around me said they were hot. It was only then that I saw reference to cold flushes and I think that’s what I had. Maybe my phone was listening to me; it definitely thinks I want most perimenopausal purchases lately.

Me too...yet my daughter, who is also borderline, has been prescribed thyroxine by her surgery. Says it has made a big difference
