Losing my words again

PersephoneParlormaid · 22/01/2026 12:15

Had this a few years ago, initially took magnesium threonate and felt it helped, went on HRT and didn’t need it anymore, but never fully got my words back. Assumed it was part of aging. Now I feel like I’m losing them again, losing confidence at work. Anyone else?

You don’t stop needing HRT. Your body won’t start producing oestrogen again and symptoms return.

PersephoneParlormaid · 22/01/2026 16:28

It’s not the HRT I didn’t need my more, it’s the magnesium L-threonate

Were your magnesium levels tested before you took the supplements? My doctor has told me to stop taking them as my levels were normal. He said the side effects can be bad.

When you say you're losing your words, do you mean you forget words? Have you seen a doctor?

Does 'losing your words' mean you're in the middle of a sentence, talking to someone and you can't remember the word you want?

This is brain fog and caused by loss of estrogen.
I'm not sure what you said- are you still on HRT?

PersephoneParlormaid · 23/01/2026 15:41

Yes, brain fog. Being in a conversation and forgetting the word for something.
yes, still on HRT

Ah I've notice I'm doing this more often
Either I forget half way through a conversation, or I just can 'get' the word I'm looking for, it's like I get bored half way through and loose concentration. Might have to seriously think about a GP visit.

wellstopdoingitthen · 23/01/2026 15:53

Apologies for jumping on your thread but I have this too. It’s getting so bad I’m avoiding conversations as it’s so embarrassing.
Also on HRT and magnesium. Worried about dementia.

Testosterone helps with the words, I found, as well as estrogen

It is something that happens to all of us as we get older but the important thing is to understand how much is 'normal' and when it's something more to worry about.

Might be worth thinking about your dose of HRT and maybe increasing it- how old are you now?

So you're still quite young. Whatever estrogen dose you're on, do you ever have a review? This is when you can discuss your symptoms and maybe think about a higher dose.
