Blood pressure Medication with HRT (also have underactive thyroid)

Hi Everyone,
I want to ask if anyone is taking HRT and on blood pressure medication? How it has been and when to take it (I take Urtogestan at night)....I am currently on 100 Utrogestan and 50 Evorel Oestrogen patches (continuous) . I was given 3 months to get my BP down but I have to admit I lost it a bit over xmas and piled on more pounds and my BP is now higher not lower. I am awaiting a call from the Pharmacist (cos the GP's at my surgery won't entertain talking about this, it is all done via the pharmacist who is ok but not the best....anyway I digress......

I am quite worried about side effects I am on 25mg Levothyroxine too for under active thyroid. I didn't want to go on BP meds but I think it is probably now safer and more prudent to do it......

Anyone here take HRT and blood pressure meds? what type (and amount) any advice would be so welcome.

Thank you

You’re only on 25 micrograms of Levothyroxine for an under active thyroid? That’s low.

Anyway, yes I’m on HRT and BP meds (Amlodopine).

I have an annual blood test and BP check for all the above. I always have to push to stay on HRT and point out I’m post hysterectomy (BSO TH) and fully aware of (a) the NICE guidelines, and (b) the risk/benefit ratio.

Tbh, I think the reference ranges in the UK for ‘normal’ thyroid (TSH) are too high and BP are too low, but hey ho. Best of luck.

Yep. Am on Losarten and Estrogel and Utrogeston.

No issues, as far as I am aware. HRT should help with the BP, although I've not noticed much difference tbh, but my BP is controlled, so.....

I take BP meds in the morning, HRT in the evenings.

Ask your gp surgery for a medication review because they will have your notes, information about your weight and other medical issues.

Hey @TheAutumnCrow Thanks for your reply, Yes the Levothyroxine is pretty low (I think maybe because I have apparently always been borderline). Thank you for letting me know what you take, I too want to stay on HRT but have been worrying about side effects with everything. I have read you can still take HRT and knowing other peoples perspectives/experiences helps, so thank you.

(pharmacist calling me tomorrow now apparently)

Brilliant @HostaCentral that's reassuring (I know everyone different) but it really helps thank you , really appreciated (what mg are you on? if you don't mind me asking)

Yes I thought the hrt would bring it down but its gone the other way, but I have the usual New Year plan to get to the gym, hopefully having BP controlled will help get me on a more even keel.

@viques I think I am due a medication review in Feb so its something I will def mention to the Pharmacist tomorrow thank you :0)

I'm on Evorel Sequi HRT patches and BP Meds, (Lisinopril I think it's spelt).

No issues that I've noticed with the BP meds. They came 2 years prior to starting HRT.

Quite annoying. It took years to get a doctor to listen to me regarding HRT as I started peri late 30s. I'm 50 now. I started them in 2021.

BP meds got dished straight out even though I didn't want them. I still am terrible at taking them. They're useful for helping with menopause sleep issues I've found though, as they make ME really sleepy. . I think 10mg is too high and will be mentioning it at my next review.

HostaCentral · 13/01/2026 23:03

My Losarten dose is 50mg. My HRT is 1/2 gel squirts and daily 100mg tablet. Standard.

Hey @SuperBlondie28 Thanks so much for the information regarding what you take this is super helpful I'm really grateful and appreciate it. I am seeing the Doctor Monday (finally managed to get an appointment). Hopefully I will be prescribed meds that bring it down and I can stop feeling all anxious and worried about it which is not helping.
Thanks @HostaCentral for updating with your dosage I really appreciate it....
Honestly mumsnet is a lifeline, often better than speaking to your own Doctor ....(I know its not medical advice per se but really helpful all the same
Thank you all, I feel armed and ready for my GP appointment , watch this space!💪😀
