Progesterone question

Vintageroses · 12/01/2026 16:04

Currently on sequential hrt and on day 4 of the progesterone part (2 capsules a night for 15 nights )
Doctor has suggested I switch to continuous progesterone to see if it helps my migraines, so one capsule every night.

should I just go straight to 1 a night or complete the 15 nights on 2, take a break and then start. My periods are all over the place completely out of sync with the hrt but feel like one is about to start.

Either will be fine. Basically “pick a lane” and stick with it for a few months, then reassess.

Alas, I am not a doctor but a random person on the Interwebz…(however to be fair vanishingly few GPs seem particularly clued up on modern peri-and menopause treatment protocols) and at least I’ve tested several regimes of oppositional P myself.

Good luck – there are loads of fab, knowledgeable people here that will support your journey.

Thanks @AccidentallyOnTrend what a journey it is !

It absolutely is! For me though it has been life-changing. Good luck, it’s trial and error to find what doses / what cadence works for you, but the rewards (in my experience at least) are immense.

Good luck OP, I've found the continuous progesterone better for me. No menstrual migraines for the last couple of cycles.

Vintageroses · 15/01/2026 16:15

@TheUsualChaos do you take it every day or do you do the three day break as it says on the leaflet ?

Can I ask OP do you still get periods? I was about to post about taking lower dose but continuous progesterone as I’m hypersensitive to it and end up with some horrible side effects I’d prefer not to experience, that some sources say may be helped by continuous - but I still have regular periods 😭😭😭

The one I'm on was a four day break but after three months getting on well with it, I've been told not to take the break anymore as it will give better endometrial protection and possibly make periods lighter.

@GCautist yes still having periods which seem to be the trigger for 2 week long headaches and migraines.
