How much bleeding is normal?

When should I get it checked?

Aged 53, been on Evorel and Uterogesten for 2 years (75 patch)

Periods are all over the place - nothing for 2 months , then a short one for 3 days, then a heavier one a week later. Seems I’ve been bleeding more this month than not 😬

Thanks

Hi OP I’ve nothing to suggest as I’m the same as you and wondering what’s happening too so hope you don’t mind me joining you for any advice? I’m also getting more cramps than normal and a sensation of trapped wind in my pelvis occasionally but its definitely not that IYSWIM?

My night sweats have also ramped up to 1000 since before Christmas too which is nice 😳

Thanka for starting this one though and I’ll do some bumping for you 😀

@offtothegymagain @tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz when you are in peri menopause your periods go erratic. My longest gap was 65 days then another one two weeks later. Please talk to your doctor about this. The only thing that stopped my erratic bleeding was a mirena coil

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/01/2026 15:25

I know they will try and steer me to a coil but for various reasons (including a HCP telling me hers got lost inside her 😳) I really, really, really don’t want one.

But crikey, bleeding for 65 days, wow. That must have been horrendous

If you're ever concerned, it's totally fine to go to the gp. They should take you seriously and I do think they're generally getting better at this

Try and make a note of how many tampons/pads/mooncups you get through within X hours and what absorbancy.

Highlight if you're having to change at the 2 hour mark (or less.

Also key, explain how it's different to what you're normal is / was.

I put up with erratic and heavier periods for 18 months in perimenopause, I was miserable. I eventually got a Mirena, and never had another period. I know some women have trouble with them, but once it settled down it was brilliant for me. I had another put in later as part of my HRT, so I didn't have to mess around with Utrogestan.
