Ryeqo

So I’ve had worsening pms symptoms every month during perimenopause (I’m 43). Horrendous fatigue, upset stomach, nausea symptoms, pelvic pain
I had an appointment with a gynaecologist last week and he has prescribed ryeqo. I’d never heard of it.
Has anyone had any experience of taking this? Thank you

Never heard of it but did look it up.
It seems quite unusual but is supposedly similar to the Pill to control heavy bleeding.

Were you referred by your GP to an NHS gynaecologist (in the UK)?

Did they discuss with you why they thought that was the best treatment?
Did you talk about HRT, more usual forms of the Pill, or other forms of treatment?

It’s a drug for treating endometriosis and uterine fibroids. I’d be asking questions as it’s not a normal first line treatment for perimenopause.

Thank you, yes I thought it was abit unusual. Very kind of you to take the time to look it up.
Yes a UK gynae referred by my GP.
I’m going to try it for a couple of months and see if things improve I think

Did the consultant explain WHY they thought the drug was right for you?
If they think you have endo, that ought to be the start of investigations for it - not medication without a diagnosis. No dr should give you a drug without explaining why and how it should help.

Upset stomach and nausea are not common peri symptoms unless you mean they happen during bleeding. If it's the bleeding that is the main issue, the treatment is often the Mirena coil.

@JinglingSpringbells thanks very much
the doc explained that it was a medical menopause in that it would stop my ovaries working and therefore stop all my pms symptoms.
yes the upset tummy is during my period
he did say did I want to try this or HRT and when I asked what he would recommend he said ryeqo

It might stop PMS but you will get menopause symptoms instead!

Medical menopause is a very odd way to treat this.
So you're being put into surgical menopause at 43. Did he talk about the risks of that? And that you could need these drugs for 10 years?

The risks- you will lose estrogen which will give you all the symptoms of menopause, (hot flushes etc) increase your risk of bone density loss and heart disease.

I'd see a different dr. This sounds so wrong.

The other option for young women like you is the Pill, and the newer brands where the estrogen is the same as our own rather than synthetic.
