Gsm diagnosis

So after thinking I had another bout of thrush I realised it wasn't as nothing helped.
Just been given a diagnosis of gsm atrophy.
Been dry sore, itchy feel like I have something up there, very uncomfortable.
I guess I just want some positive vibes. Feeling very old and wrinkled. Been prescribed some cream, unsure what as yet as it won't be ready till later.. with hormones which you insert.
Will this really help....im worried the cream won't agree with me as I cant take canesten pesssries as rhey kill me.But I cant carry on like this. Been using some can meno cream but hadn't really helped.
Im going away next week and could really do without this. Does it help straight away or take time. Feeling anxious about it all.
Thanks x

Yes thats what I went to the dr with, soreness, dry, bladder etc. However he didn't even examine me but said it couldnt be thrush because id been taking stuff for ut and it didn't work and given my symptoms this is what it is . I always had slight period pains with it which it told him . Annoyingly my regular gp is off sick until new year.
Yes it does feel like bladder pain, but I had my urine dipped when I saw him and no infection or cause for concern.
Honestly, ive had a terrible year eith one thing and another and now this when im going away. Have family this evening, packing and taking cat to cattery tomorrow and various ither things....not time to do anything about it, cant sit in a and e for hours and there's a junior Dr strike.
So uts just going to have to hold until the week after. Then pray I can ger dr appt. Women def get the raw deal in life....

Have you been checked by your GP to see if anything else is going on? You shouldn't be getting period type pain with GSM. Do you think it's bladder pain perhaps?

The pain with vaginal atrophy / gsm is not usually like you are describing.
Most women describe it as soreness externally, feeling dry , painful sex, weeing more, urgency etc.

Are you trying paracetamol for the pain?

The cream won't be causing the pain you're having, not after 1 application.
If you can, keep going with it and if you're worried, use half the amount not the full one. So don't fill the applicator right to the red line.

Honestly @JinglingSpringbells I had such awful pain as soon as I started using the Vagifem pessaries. I was in agony. I’ve now been using estriol cream for nearly three years with no problems. I’m assuming I had a bad reaction to estradiol x

But she's not using Vagifem, she's using estriol cream which is 'weaker' (different.)

TBH seeing your GP again isn't likely to do much more .
But maybe ask for another urine test and one that isn't just a dip stick?

I doubt your symptoms are anything to do with the cream and more likely the symptoms you have had all along but getting worse, because they need treating.

Is bladder pain common with this condition?
Have read a lot on this cream giving pelvic pain but not immediately like mine appears to be.
The need for a wee is increasing so much like someone is poking my bladder with their finger. So uncomfortable. I went to the docs with the soreness, itchy etc but that is now the lesser of the 2 issues. This pain and bladder thing is ruining me tbh .
Has anyone found the cream ,(if I continue with it) helps quickly with bladder issues etc.
Im at my wits end. Woykd feel better if I could see doctor again but literally no chance . Genuinely couldn't carry on with this long term!

I'm not 100% sure on this but it may be worth looking into- I think you can get a short course of ABs for bladder infections via the pharmacy by completing a form online- I think Lloyds does it.

The creams really don't give pelvic pain like you're having. SOME women get slight period type pain which is just the womb ' coming back to life a bit' with the tiny amount that might reach it. Not much is absorbed systemically which is why it's not necessary to use progestogen with it.

These treatments don't work overnight. I found it took 3-6 months to help my severe bladder issues. But it's worth persevering if you can.

I understand it's not nice!

It’s a good product but most of the time the loss of estrogen needs replacing by HRT cream x

Yes I meant in addition too as well as :) I use cream and pessaries despite my GP being difficult about it 🤪

Vaginal oestrogen is really good. A tiny tablet twice a week via an applicator, after two weeks of daily tablets. Most of symptoms gone or much better. Hope you feel better soon.
