Confusion about Testosterone results

SilkieChick · 27/11/2025 18:13

So I did the Superdrug home blood test and my results are in:

0.5 nmol/L (Range: 0 - 1.8)

The service says this is 'within normal range'. I suppose I was hoping for something a bit more conclusive, so now I don't know whether to order testosterone or not, or if they'll even let me have it?

How can normal also be 0 when we need this hormone?? Is it still reasonable to consider taking it at 0.5? Has anyone had a similar result and benefited from taking testosterone?

I was thinking of trying it because I am hoping it will give me back a bit of lust for life (and my husband) and help with motivation, clarity, focus etc (although I know there's only anecdotal evidence that it can help with this).

My NHS original test said <0.04 and GP said I very much needed it.

I'm now around your level and have a very healthy libido now.

But I've heard some people not getting any chance until 1.5.

That’s interesting to know @Justputsomeyoghurtonit and I’m glad it’s had a positive effect! I need to put my result into context I think, so it helps to know your experience.

And a bit of googling suggests there’s no definitive ‘normal’ range… however it looks like I’m on the low side of things… I wonder if it’s still worth me giving it a try 🤔

Would the GP prescribe this?

SilkieChick · 30/11/2025 10:40

No, the GP said I’d need a referral to the menopause clinic and their guidelines are only to prescribe for post-menopausal women, over 50 I think she said. I’m 48, so “too young” and still in perimenopause.

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying. That’s a shame and hopefully over time it will become more easily available for women on the NHS.

Would the GP prescribe this?

At my surgery, yes. I started T aged 45 and my relationship is the strongest it's been. A renewed libido, greater connection, feeling of support going through the meno shit.
