End of Peri - What Was It Like for You?

I’m 10 years in to Perimenopause, 7 years on sequential HRT. i started peri early, and before HRT had gone 9-10 months without a period, but was a mess physically and emotionally.

HRT helped me bounce back, and as its sequential I have a regular bleed.

But starting to wonder how I will know when peri ends and menopause proper begins if HRT masks the symptoms?

I’m in no rush to give up HRT but do I transition to continuous HRT at some point? I’ve started to feel ‘different’ recently, but not sure if this is the next phase or not. (No chance of getting a GP appointment where I live to talk this through.)

What was your end of peri / end of HRT like? Can anyone share their experiences please?

I started peri at 39 and suffered for 10 years. I’ve been on HRT patches for 3 years and I think (although I’m in no rush to stop them) that I am post menopause now. It wasn’t a nice 10 years! How old are you?

edit: I feel absolutely great now, back to my old happy, calm self and I look better too

Glad you feel better too, I bet it feels amazing after suffering for so long!
I’m mid 40s now, but swear HRT has let me get my relationship and career back on track.

i guess I was so unprepared for perimenopause in my 30s, I didn’t recognise the signs. So would like to prepare myself for the next phase, whatever that might bring. But maybe I should just relax and enjoy the here and now.

I’m not on hrt, I had to come off it due to breast cancer. I went on tamoxifen for the BC and had some periods for 18 months, but then they stopped 6 months ago - either post menopause clock has started or the tam has stopped them.

what I’ve noticed is that there’s a more constant and consistent level of calmness to my personality, even though I’ve had extreme work stress recently.

I seem to see through bs even more clearly but don’t get as angry at all, or irritated. That was a huge horrid feature of peri. I do get spikes of anxiety, but I do also have an extremely stressful and physical job, which has been more than usual recently.

I am exercising and eating v well etc (to attempt to deal with the other side effects, night sweats, hot flushes, joint pain etc.)

I believe, from reading bits here and on other forums, that you may continue to have bleeds on sequential for as long as you’re on it, but most women switch to continuous eventually, or get a mirena (not sure how long you can have a mirena for though. It was a firm no when I had BC)
