Skin sensitivity and perimenopause

Hi, I'm 49 and I'm going through perimenopause at the moment, and I've got this weird thing that my skin feels super sensitive, like the feeling of clothes on my arms and legs makes me feel really shivery - it feels a bit like when you have a temperature but I don't have a temperature if that makes any sense? It gets worse if I'm tired. It's really annoying. I've heard people talking about itching and dry akin, it's not that, it feels more like a weird nerve thing - when my kids were little I caught hand, foot and mouth and I had this weird soreness/tingling in my mouth for about 6 months afterwards and it's exactly like that except my arms and legs.

I have no advice to offer only to say that I sympathise, am slightly older and have very itchy skin at the moment, no idea why - wondering if it’s the menopause.

@runrabbitrunrabbitrun I've seen itchy skin listed as a menopause symptom, definitely- not sure if normal itching cures do anything though?
I can see how people end up using herbal remedies for this sort of stuff because if I went to my doctor he'd be prescribing me hydrocortisone and bundling me out the door before I finished describing the symptom!

God op I’ve just come upstairs and stripped off because my clothes on my skin are making me twitch.

I’ve had it on and off for a long time but it’s got worse alongside many other symptoms like hot flushes, hot in general, brain fog, accidental and clumsy, and the insomnia is horrendous the last two weeks.

I bought some bamboo pjs with vest tops and they’re brilliant.

keep you cooler but are really soft on the skin so not irritating at all

I did have that feeling when I tweaked a nerve in my back, but just in one large area on my back. Is yours all over your body?

I described it as feeling like I'd got sunburn with goosebumps ontop. Sounds a bit like your description?

I think a GP would be more likely to offer you amytriptyline for nerve pain than hydrocortisone for dermatitis. You could try pharmacist first? If they say - sounds like a nerve problem, you could go see GP and tell them the pharmacist says...

Amytriptyline is fairly unpleasant, but effective for nerve issues.
