Testosterone????

I’m on HRT - oestrogen and progesterone, which has helped with sleep and hot flushes but I’m really struggling still with brain fog, forgetfulness. I have an intellectually demanding job and I just can’t keep up anymore. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up losing my job if I can’t get it together soon. Does anyone have any tips? Would adding testosterone help? Any other supplements?

I was the exact same. Made an appointment with the Newson clinic and got it prescribed privately. Within 10 days the fog lifted. Having already been in HRT for 16 months I was shocked at how quickly it helped. If you can afford it book now!

Thank you! Looked them up. Quite pricey for an appointment so I’ve enquired at Superdrug. They say I need a blood test so will sort that and then see if I can get a prescription through Superdrug. Will update on how I get on as I’m sure it will help others. I’m very relieved to hear that testosterone made a difference to focus so thanks so much for replying. There is hope for me still!!

Why not see your GP?

Why not see your GP?

GPs won’t prescribe it for most women.

GPs won’t prescribe it for most women.

Surely there is no harm in asking. My NHS GP suggested it to me.

My GP was happy to prescribe testosterone too, but only for libido and only after my other HRT had been increased (which sorted my very flat mood). But worth a try, surely.

ScrewyouJonathon · 27/10/2025 09:29

Most GPs won't prescribe as it is off licence but of course worth a try. Mine said she will only prescribe it for post menopausal women with no libido - shocking really! You only have to read on here the amount of women who are having to pay for it. Maybe you will lucky op and get a sympathetic one who is willing.

My older sister was having variable anxiety and brainfog on oestrogen/progesterone HRT in peri at 45, tried to balance it for 18 months but then heard about testosterone and tried an online consult with Superdrug. Ticking the magic box "no libido" she got some which helped enormously clearing up both, so after three months she got a GP referral to the local NHS HRT clinic and they listened to her experience and put her on testosterone officially.

"No libido" wasn't a symptom she had - sex actually helped with the anxiety - but that's how she got the Superdrug prescription. Which is a bit depressing, makes you feel like you can only have it if you're in service to a man😑
Also the packs are man sized, and you have to carefully squeeze a week or two's dosages out of one tear-open ketchup-type packet... Feels all very haphazard but it's totally worth trying, she's like a new woman!

Watching with interest! I've considered going through Superdrug too - my GP has been very supportive of prescribing HRT but I've been asking about testosterone for ages and she's quite resistant to it, has told me I wouldn't meet the criteria at the local NHS meno clinic.

However, I've just come down from 100mcg patches to 75 - I think I feel better mentally at the higher dose and I think it's been helping with libido too, but I've been getting too many headaches and general aches and pains with these. So, reluctantly I'm reducing the dose and now I'm wondering if testosterone could be the thing to help, the missing piece as it were - I would like to feel more energised, sharper and a bit of sex drive wouldn't go amiss.

I know it's not a magic bullet and it doesn't work for everyone, but I feel like surely it's worth a try...

I must have been very lucky because I didn’t mention libido, just lethargy.
