Thinning hair and HRT

I'm wondering whether I'm starting to get some peri-menopausal symptoms, and whether HRT would help these. I actually don't think any of them individually are that difficult to deal with and I don't generally like to take medication for anything unless absolutely necessary.

I've got a coil so no idea how the cycles are doing or whether they've gone out of kilter yet. But the coil was put in 4 years ago (when I was 44), for excessive flooding.

I've got the opposite of hot sweats - I'm freezing cold all the time. Someone mentioned this was actually a peri-menopause thing and I googled - who knew!

I've got weird stuff going on down there 😬My bladder seems to have gone very over active and can sometimes feel like it is a bit detached from my brain (I've been to the doctor about this, there's no prolapse and she's sent me away with pelvic floor exercises).

Some joint aches and pains, and new/heightened allergies that have been there a while, but seem to have got worse.

But the thing I'm hating, is my hair is falling out so badly. It is now sooooo thin. I've always had PCOS, so have probably been classed as too testosterone heavy, but now with reducing estrogen it's coming out all the time. I have some hair loss shampoo that I've been using for a few months, I take biotin every day and a multi-vitamin, but no difference, I've just got crazy whispy baby hairs coming out of the sides of my hairline, like horns 🙄

Has anyone gone onto HRT and noticed a difference with their hair? I'm wondering whether I should just ask for the patches and see if it makes any difference.

Following with interest as I’m 45 and suspect I’m in perimenopause and today a clump of hair was left in the shower when I washed it! Hair definitely feeling thinner….

Going on HRT has been a great decision for me in every sense. At the back of my mind, I do think about the risks. But some might say that they were decided based on a very small sample of people. My hair and skin and def better!

Just get some Minoxidil from Amazon. Works brilliantly.

So in peri the first hormone to drop is progesterone, your coil will now be out of date for HRT purposes, but the coil, and any form of contraception, only contains synthetic progestin, it will protect you uterus but you won't be getting the all over body benefits the body identical progesterone would give you, and it sounds like you need. GPs will always suggest the coil for HRT because it's a lot cheaper, but you will see many more benefits if you get Micronised Progesterone. They will only prescribe this along side some form of estrogen, but you may not need that yet, you can ask for it in the form of the gel and with use very little or none if you don't want to.

Peri menopausal atm, had horrendous hot flushes, badly thinning hair and hideous insomnia. I'm usually fit, healthy and very active but felt really low and tired. I wont take any prescription medication, no judgement just personal preference.
I researched natural alternatives. I've been taking Pumpkin seed oil with Saw Palmetto for about 3 months and my hair has completely stopped shedding and I've so much new hair growing I'm delighted!
I also started using use Wild Yam cream, I haven't had one hot flush since day 3 of using it and I'm sleeping like a baby.
There is plenty of info about both things, may be worth a Google to see if they might suit you.

Biotin supplements were recommended to me by a dermatologist & have definitely reduced the huge amount of shedding & hair thinning

@Creamteasandbumblebees I completely missed this response, which brand do you take?
