Given Estriol 0.01% instead of Ovestin/ is this right?

I normally use Ovestin but last prescription was given Estriol cream and it seems weaker strength and the applicator looks like I would use 10 times as much as Ovestin! Surely this isn’t right. It also contains peanut oil. Luckily I’m not allergic to nuts but still not sure I like the sound of that. Is Ovestin not available anymore?

The Estriol (that replaced Ovestin) says:

Estriol 1 mg / g cream
1 g contains 1mg estriol

Anything weaker isn’t worth a GP prescribing as it’s that OTC stuff.

@sunglasses It's the same thing unless you have been given a brand that is 0.01% estrogen. That IS 10 x weaker. If that's what they gave you, query it.

Ovestin or Estriol cream is 0.1% estrogen.

The patent (brand name) on Ovestin expired about a year ago. What is available now is the same but without the brand name and is just called Estriol.

@SaturnaliaComesThisWay Ovesse is available over the counter and is the same as the old Ovestin.
It's not posisble to buy any other sort, including the weaker 0.01%.

I’ve been given the weaker stuff 0.01 %. I haven’t used it yet but I’m going to take it back to pharmacy and query it.

I was given this a few months ago and didn't get on with it at all. It made me very itchy and uncomfortable. I am now very careful to specifically request 0.1% estriol cream when I order my prescription.

I get prescribed Ovestin and more frequently given Estriol. I assumed they were the same active product/strength as I couldn't see anything different about them really -

Ovestin box says Estriol 1mg in 1g

Estriol box says 1mg/g

The Ovestin will be old stock. It's not available now as a branded product.

The Estriol in your 2nd photo is what is being prescribed now but that's not what the OP was given- she was given a weaker generic version.
