Too much HRT?

Just wanting to sound out if this seems like a lot of HRT ? I still feel out of sorts and I’ve been on some kind of HRT for 5 years, I’m 50. Wonder if I feel like I do because it’s all too much and maybe I should stop it all? It feels like a lot.
patches 100
spray 2 x per day
progesterone tablets x2 daily
merina coil

The spray is quite a low dose so you certainly aren’t doubling up on your oestrogen so try not to worry.

If you can go afford to go private there are a number of providers. I have been using TMC, the menopause consortium, and they are really good and are now all over the country. You could book a consultation and see what they say? Always nice to have a second opinion.

I wouldn’t come off it cold turkey as HRT takes so long to settle it could make you feel awful trying to build your levels up again, and it isn’t good for you.

good luck!

The spray gives the same as other forms- patches, gel, tablets , when used in the right amount each day.

But I agree that going cold turkey after being on a high dose isn' t a great idea!

I have been on Hrt ( combined in various forms)for 11 years after a hysterectomy .

I stopped everything 3 months ago as I had lost my “get up and go “ and had aches ,pains, hair loss, irritability etc and I kept having my hrt upped but nothing seemed to help and I have honestly never felt better.

so much more energy, chilled, less hair loss ,no aching joints and so so much happier.
I am honestly amazed and thrilled .
I think I’d been on so much for so long I’d lost sight of what my body needed.
Maybe coming off everything might be an idea ?

I'm on 200mcg of Sandrena gel, Mirena, and pea size of testosterone gel. GP told me a was on a higher dose of Sandrena, so yours does seem a lot. I'm ok but if you're not feeling right, ask for a blood test to measure your hormone levels. 👍

None of it makes any sense OP.

The Mirena coil gives endometrial protection so there is no need for additional progesterone. (but at the same time, no one takes double high doses of estrogen.) Why has your GP said you need it? You should ask why.

If I were you I'd stop everything (apart from the Mirena which you can't stop unless it's removed.)

Give it 4 to 6 weeks with no estrogen if you can then start again gradually with either 1-2 sprays of Lenzetto or a 50mcg patch.

Edited

I have endometriosis and the gynae has said when h start HRT I need additional progesterone as well as the mirena coil and I am not to be on just oestrogen and the mirena
so unless it’s that?

So is your HRT being prescribed by your GP or the consultant who diagnosed endometriosis? Have you asked your GP if they are following a consultant's advice?

Still doesn't account for the very large dose of estrogen you're on.

Sorry I’m not the OP! Was just adding some info that the gynae gave to me that has gone in a letter to my GP and wondering if the OP could be similar

my letter says
“on starting HRT she must be on a combined HRT, she has the mirena coil but must also have further oral micronised progesterone at the same time to help prevent further endometriosis deposits. I also recommend a testosterone blood test”

Buzzyfeeder · 23/10/2025 12:28

@buffyreboot i guess your additional progesterone relates to your endometriosis which I don’t have? Had my review and essentially the gp asked me what I wanted to do but didn’t recommend stopping everything. Consultation was basically its up to me ! I’m going to drop the spray, have new coil and drop the progesterone with a view th lowering the patches over time subject to my symptoms. No clinical input at all just my best guess at a way forward! If I hit any issues with the reduced doses I will seek a private consultation I think.
