Mirena Coil side effects

I am 2 weeks post mirena fitting and over the last week have developed really sore inflamed gums and a strong metallic taste which is keeping me awake at night. I understand this can be a progesterone side effect but am wondering if anyone else has had this and if it subsided?

I am worried about permanent damage to my teeth if it doesn't improve soon having read horror stories like this and am unsure how long to give it to settle.

Woman left with gaps between her teeth 'thanks to the coil'

After getting the coil in 2013, Ella began to notice that her gums had started to swell and noticed gaps forming between her teeth.

Hi 👋 Not totally related to your post, but i do get very sore inflammation and bleeding gums at certain points in my cycle, especially since I started perimenopause 5 years ago. I certainly never had any gum problems before being perimenopausal, and it's definitely hormones.

No advice I'm afraid, but total solidarity with regards to the awful gum problems. I hate how much hormones have affected my oral health. The only thing that really helps is really good oral health hygiene, and being vigilant with brushing, flossing and interdental brushes.

Oh, and Corsodyl helps a lot too.

Thank you for your reply. I am feeling marginally better today. Have been doing lots of salt water gargles which seem to help. I know the matallic taste always comes when I change my oestrogen dose so I think it is more the fluctuation than anything. Are you taking HRT? I am never sure whether this is helpful or just makes things worse as it is so hard to get the dose right.
