So achey - is this perimenopause or something else?

So fed up, my back aches, hips, shoulders,
neck even my arms and bottom hurt today. Feel just as achey getting up in the morning as when I went to bed.
I am 44, I am perimenopausal I think but is this it? What can I do?
Supplements? physio? Yoga?

I have seen a physio and osteopath in the past,
osteopath didn’t really help apart from confirming one side of my pelvis was weaker, physio basically said I’m a woman in my 40s so what do I expect?!

I could do with losing a stone or two but am not huge at all, I have a dog so walk at least once a day.
Desk based job though but have had an ergonomic assessment so am set up properly.

Are you on HRT? And if so maybe need to increase dose?

@user2848502016 didnt the osteo give you exercises to do?

I see an osteo for hip and knee issues and I am religious about doing the physio. Mine is issues with SI joint which she thinks is from childbirth.

I take as much HRT as I'm allowed to and it's made no difference to my joint pain, the physio however has done.

Clams with a heavy weight loop band, wall sits, single leg pistol squats off a seat, bird dog, pelvic tilts, lots of squats and bridges.

I am also finding Lauren Fitter deep abs workouts help enormously with my lower back pain and might help with the pelvic instability.

Might you have prolapse? I have and this can cause all sorts of aches and pains as the rest of your body compensates.

Thanks both, no not on HRT as I haven’t felt I’ve needed it yet for any other symptoms.

Osteopath did give some exercises but it’s a couple of years ago now so maybe I should try someone different.
I have had problems since being pregnant with bad PGP just have got worse the last few weeks. Don’t think I have a prolapse, no other symptoms.

@user2848502016 i am expecting to need to do my physio exercises for a long time to maintain a certain baselevel of fitness/strength.

I dont think physio works after 6 weeks (or however long) then you are fixed forever..

Re HRT I think it is fair to say that if you scour these boards, a huge number of women have aching joints as their main issue. I went on HRT at 44. And it was two years later than I should have done.

I am post meno and not on HRT . Never had aches . Some women do but do t presume. Go to your GP to rule out other things Sometimes it’s Vit D deficiency.

redfishcat · 22/09/2025 20:10

Low vitamin D can cause aches, so ask your GP to check your levels
