Bloody hot flushes

I started taking HRT in June. One pump of gel, one tablet.

My main symptoms were hot flushes all day and all night so I wasn't sleeping. The HRT meds were miraculous and the flushes went, I could sleep ..... bliss.

But over the last 2 to 3 weeks they are coming back. I haven't slept all weekend due to the constant heat burning me up.

My question is, is it too soon to be considering increasing my meds? If it keeps being increased every few months, I'll be on the maximum dose by Christmas!! Am I still in the 'settling in' phase ..... but why would the sweats return with a vengeance?

I need sleep 🥲

I started on two pumps.

took a few years for the hot flushes to come back.

I think you are on a particularly low dose of oestrogen. I am on 2 pumps oestrogen and 200mg utrogestan (14 days a month). I think this is pretty much the standard starting dose. (I was told to take 1 pump a day for a week and then to move to 2 pumps).

Thank you both.

I have booked an appointment with the menopause nurse for a fortnight's time. I didn't know if i was jumping the gun, going from one to two pumps so quickly, but it seems that two pumps is the norm?

I just need to try and get through the next two weeks without sleeping

If it is oestrogel then the normal starting dose is two pumps.

I increased my dose without consulting the GP and settled on 100mcg. I told them I needed more in my repeat prescription and nothing was questioned. I still have reviews when required.

As long as you haven’t got any underlying problems then why waste the time and effort having to make an appointment where they’ll say ‘yeah, give it a try’ ?

I have actually considered doing exactly this.

I'm fairly positive the nurse will tell me to go up to 2 pumps. Would the nightly tablet stay at the same dosage?

I don't think you'd need to increase the porgesterone, but I only took progesterone (Utrogestan?) for a couple of months before getting a Mirenea, so have very little experience of taking it orally, and am in no way any kind of medical expert. However, I haven't been advised to take extra or anything since I did have the coil fitted and upped my dose. There could be some information on dosage on the leaflet you get with it.
