Dry flaky scalp

I have just turned 50 and I’m sure I am peri menopausal, I’ve developed a very itchy dry flaky scalp, I’ve read up on it and it’s a symptom apparently, does anyone else get this? And can recommend a shampoo and conditioner I could try? Not sure whether to book an appointment with my gp, I have been debating whether to start some hrt as well.

Use nizoral, the treatment one (they have a shampoo too but haven’t tried it). I suffer from dermatitis on my scalp and it’s the only thing that clears it up (takes a few washes to get rid)

I believe eucerin have a shampoo for dry scalps. 🌺

Is it all over or just patches? It could be eczema or psoriasis. I have a patch of it on the back of my head and have to put a scalp cream on it containing salicylic acid.

I showed to my GP and she said it was the right stuff to use. She also prescribed a steroid scalp lotion for flare ups. She told me to use the cream every day to keep it under control.

Ok. Well it could be similar to mine then. I’d try a scalp treatment containing salycilic acid.

Nizoral is brilliant. I spent a year thinking I had scalp eczema or allergic to my shampoos, head sprays etc changing products etc
In desperation turned to nizoral.
At first I didn't notice much difference but it says to use it 3 or 4 times for the first couple of weeks so I did and it cleared up!

Make sure you leave it on 5 minutes.as well.

If I ever start to feel itchy again I use nizoral on it for a week or two. Absolutely brilliant.

I giot this before hrt and also recently when I decided to half my dose. Scalp flaky dry itchy and sore. Tried everything but the one thing that seemed to work very quickly and is gentle was MooGoo shampoo . Also really concentrating on washing my scalp not just my hair and 2 shampoos

Philip Kingsley shampoo/lotion for dry and flaky scalp is good.
If it's red or very itchy see your GP as it may be eczema and you need a steroid lotion.

Yes I do get the little dry flakey white patches, mainly on the hairline. I've actually had it for years but it got worse once my hormones started to shift.

I saw a dermatologist (because I also get it elsewhere). She said it's seborrhoeic dermatitis. The treatment for this is antifungal shampoo or salicylic acid (or both). Washing my hair more often seems to help too.

I also now get it on my eyebrows, which is a right pain in the arse !

I use upcircle shampoo & conditioner. But I’ve also found that scalp irritation/flaking/itching gets worse if I leave my hair to dry naturally. It clears up much quicker when I blow dry my hair.

Oh really? I’ve been letting my hair dry naturally because in this weather I can’t use a hairdryer anymore I end up a sweaty mess, another new symptom 😩 I hate all this I would rather just have periods back 😂

I bought some trichology scalp serum today from Superdrug, see how that goes it’s calmed the itching down a bit, they do shampoo and conditioner in the range too.

I’d also much rather leave my hair to dry on its own, but annoyingly there seems to be a connection…

I will have to try drying my hair on a lower heat, maybe this is what’s caused it, thank you I never knew this.
