Is it normal to shed this much hair in the shower? (Warning: GROSS pic)

Hi. I’m 51. Recently had my bloods taken by the GP as my energy levels weren’t as good as they could be. Everything came back fine, but indicated peri. I washed my hair in the shower this evening and as per usual, shed a load of hair. It sort of slides out from the ends, not my roots. I should add that earlier today I also brushed my hair, and the same amount if not more was left on the brush.
I’m not taking anything, except for Nutrigeeks vitamins and minerals. I find that I’m resistant to most of these things though. I find it nigh on impossible to find something that actually makes a difference.
I eat well these days and am on Mounjaro, but the hair loss occurred well before that. Thankfully I have a good head of hair and it is long, but I don’t know if it’s normal to lose this much. And it gets everywhere!
I admit that I don’t brush it every day, as it’s wavy, so this would make it frizzy.
Thanks for reading.

I still comb my curly/wavy hair every day? Otherwise it would get matted - as hers is needing to be sorted, rather than washing if that's too much, a spray of water and some leave in conditioner/serum would help stop that happening.

depends on the hair but generally most curly hair isn’t brushed daily or when dry

I brush my curly hair every day. It would be a mass of knots and matts if I didn't.

I don't brush when dry but I do brush it.

I never brush my hair. I can’t comb it in the shower when I wash it, and that’s about once a week. I easily have that much hair come out; more in the autumn when I seem to moult. All bloods normal, always have been.

When I had longer hair that would not be unusual for me at this time of year. From August to November I seemed to lose a load of hair Shed way less in the summer

No it’s not normal. Apparently when your iron dips below 60 or 70 your hair starts falling out, however the NHS says you’re fine so long as your iron reserves are above 20, or something like that… I’m not a doctor! So your bloods can come back fine while still actually being low on iron enough to experience hair loss.

to put it right, you need to be taking a supplement for many months.

I can't see clearly if that's a clump of hair at the top of your pic, if its not, that shedding is usual for me depending on how long I go between washes, i have wavy/curly hair and do not brush between washes. I use a spray bottle with some leave in to refresh daily, some rosemary oil too. I take biotin daily after losing hair during peri. X

Is it that much every time? Can you see patches of hair loss? Is your hair long? I used to shed a lot of hair but it was down to malnutrition.

I'd definitely see the GP again.
